I think every rider that has ridden out of a property or on trail has experienced this...๐ก
If you see a horse on the roadside, you are required to SLOW DOWN. Full stop.
That applies whether the horse is being ridden or lead. If the rider or handler is indicating you to slow down, this is for a damn good reason!Horses on the road have varied experience with it, and even the quietest one can react in a split second to a car hitting the gravel, kicking up stones, perhaps a trailer with a flappy tarp on the back!. When a handler signals you to slow down, IT IS NOT A SUGGESTION it is for safety. And common courtesy- something is extremely lacking across the board these days I think.
The photo Iโm sharing tells a frustrating but common story: a woman leading a child on a horse, doing everything right, yet car after car sped past despite clear signals to slow down.
It takes you seconds to ease off the accelerator and pass safely.
It also takes seconds to speed past and cause fear, stress, or serious injury.
This is not just about road rules โ itโs about basic awareness, respect, and responsibility.
Pay attention, SLOW DOWN. GIVE SPACE. Life could depend on it. and really, why do you need to create that kind of stress and ruin someone else's day when it would take you just a moment to avoid that situation entirely.
