🎉 Happy World Corgi Day! 🎉

Today we're celebrating the short legs, big personalities, and endless smiles that make Corgis so special. From their signature wiggles and fluffy "loaves" to their boundless enthusiasm for treats, toys, and adventures, Corgis have a unique way of stealing hearts wherever they go.

Whether they're visiting us for a check-up, showing off their latest trick, or charming the entire clinic staff, our Corgi patients always brighten our day.

Share a photo of your Corgi in the comments and help us celebrate these wonderful little dogs! 🐾❤️

🌽 Corn cobs are one of the most common (and trickiest!) foreign bodies we see in dogs. 🐶

If swallowed whole, they’re the perfect size to get stuck in the stomach or intestines and can quickly become a life-threatening obstruction — often requiring surgery 🏥

At Advanced Vet Care, we have a range of endoscopes, which means if a corn cob is caught early, we can sometimes retrieve it from the stomach without surgery 🙌

But it’s not always that simple… on the way down, strong jaw muscles can crush and compress the cob, helping it slip down the oesophagus. On the way back up? We don’t have those muscles to help — which can make retrieval much more challenging.

If you think your dog may have eaten a corn cob 🌽, early veterinary attention can make all the difference 🐾

We’re hiring! 🧹

Advanced Vetcare is looking for a part-time employee to work as cleaner to join our team across our Kensington and Kew clinics.

This role is perfect for someone reliable and self-motivated who takes pride in maintaining a clean, professional environment. Hours are flexible, but within the early hours of the mornings.

Important to note: this position is focused purely on cleaning and presentation of the clinic. There is no animal handling or patient care involved.

If you (or someone you know) might be interested, we’d love to hear from you!

Cino recently checked into our Intensive Care Ward at AVC Kew after feeling pretty sorry for himself — lethargic, off his food, and dealing with some unpleasant diarrhoea after sampling an “unusual treat”.
Cino has inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which means his tummy can be a little more sensitive than most. Even small dietary indiscretions can lead to big upsets, so when he wasn’t bouncing back at home, his family did exactly the right thing and brought him in.
After a night of TLC in hospital, some intravenous fluids, and anti-nausea medication, we’re very happy to report that Cino was back to his bright, happy self in no time 💙.

A chance meeting between two Bernese Mountain dogs in a Melbourne park recently highlighted both the kindness of our veterinary community and the evolving role of half-body irradiation (HBI) in canine lymphoma care. 🐾

Charlie’s distinctive speckled coat — a late radiation effect called leukotrichia — caught Hugo’s owner’s attention. When Hugo’s owner mentioned Hugo had just been diagnosed with lymphoma and was waiting for an oncology consult, Charlie’s owner generously offered them their scheduled revisit appointment so Hugo could start treatment sooner. 💛

Both dogs were diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma and completed CHOP chemotherapy at Advanced Vetcare alongside cranial and caudal half-body irradiation treatments in Sydney.

Today, both remain in complete remission — Charlie more than 2 years after diagnosis and Hugo recently reaching the 12-month milestone. 🎉🐶

Recent studies suggest HBI can significantly extend remission and survival times in chemo-responsive B-cell lymphoma, when added after patients achieve remission with chemotherapy.

A lovely reminder of how collaboration, kindness, and multimodal therapy can make a real difference for our patients. ✨

🐾✨ Coco — our oncology superstar! ✨🐾
Coco is a gorgeous 12-year-old Border Collie who was diagnosed with high-grade B-cell lymphoma in September 2025. Earlier this month she completed her chemotherapy — and we couldn’t be more proud of her.

Throughout treatment, Coco has been an absolute star ⭐ She tolerated her chemotherapy well and was always a perfect patient for her intravenous infusions, greeting our team with her gentle, sweet nature.

And when she’s not being an oncology champion, Coco is also a three-time National Flyball Champion — proving she’s just as impressive on the field as she is in the clinic! 🏆🐕

Watch the video to see amazing Coco in action!

We’re so proud of you, Coco. Thank you for letting us be part of your journey. 💕

🍫🌹 Valentine’s Day Pet Safety Reminder 🌹🍫

Beautiful bouquets can pose hidden dangers for pets. 🚫 Lilies are highly toxic to cats, and tulips or other bulb flowers can be toxic to dogs and cats. Roses can cause injury from thorns, while hydrangeas and babies breath can cause gastric irritation.

Some chocolate is toxic to dogs, with baking and dark chocolate posing the biggest risk.

Keep flowers and chocolates well out of reach and contact us immediately for advice if your pet has nibbled on a box or an arrangement.

Let’s keep the day full of love — and safe for our furry valentines ❤️🐾
