🤔Do you know what is the difference between:

- a Dog Trainer
- a Dog Behaviour Consultant
- a Dog "Behaviourist" and
- a Dog "Behaviour Specialist"?

A lot and not a lot. Anyone without formal qualifications or extensive hands-on experience can call themselves any of the above and set up a business in the dog training industry that has zero regulations.

Just like I didn't know the difference between a physiotherapist, an exercise physiologist and a chiropractor, I did my research before asking for help with my health.

Here is a good article by Dogs Australia about some of the qualifications available in Australia "that the industry recognises, and should be a minimum for anyone charging clients for their services".

I could add some more good courses to the list that are teaching students modern, science-based, force-free methods (e.g. by the Karen Pryor Academy or The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers Australia), but the bottom line is, do your research before relying on website blurbs and Google reviews...

If you don't see any formal qualifications, ask questions to see if the trainer has your dog's welfare in focus, not just profit.
