Yesterday we of course stopped at maccas for travel nuggets! Which, ended up being travel wings 🤣 but still a big YES PLEASE from Bearby which was so wonderful to see! He hasn't wanted travel nuggs for quite a while so hopefully this means we're getting back to some sort of normalcy? Oncology appointment went great! Dr Sarah is very happy with his current progress, and despite us having a particularly rough few weeks, she thinks we are through the worst of it (which i feel scared typing because I don't want to jinx it!!) She doesn't have to see him now until the 4 months mark which is December for a follow up CT. Just have to keep up this good momentum now 🤞🤞

Smudge and i clocked up a fantastic 21km ride today with Amy Todarello and her lovely boy Rocky! It was entirely spontaneous, and we had no intention at all to end up climbing nearly 800m of hills 😅 to keep it easier on the horses we hand walked them up a lot of those hills. It feels so amazing to get some serious rides in on Smudgey! There's an endurance ride this weekend that i wasn't sure we'd make, but maybe we can do it! 💪

First ride out on Smudge in a few weeks and he felt SO amazing! Beautiful little solo ride at one of our favourite tracks 💕 All the ground work with Smudge is really starting to pay off, his trot felt way more balanced on both diagonals and he is starting to feel much fitter 💪 i haven't smiled like this in a long time, thank you little Smudgy! Hopefully we can get back on track again now with our training!

This makes my heart sing! Bear wasted no time jumping into action and straight out the doggy door to greet his Grammy when he heard her car pull up! He is already so much more himself, look how happy he is! 🥰🥰

Getting there! Our last scary bout of gastroenteritis is thankfully under control now, he's still recovering but thankfully eating more willingly and getting an appetite back again 💕 no more fluids have been needed and he is already so much happier. His radiation burns are no longer red and angry and have well and truly started the healing phase so NO MORE CONE! YAY! Ive also been able to start reducing his gabapentin so he is more alert and less sleepy. His pain is so much easier to manage now. I'm starting to truly see a light at the end of this nightmarish tunnel! He even had a little walk down to the dam today, very slowly, but he did it. I love this dog more than I can put into words. His zest for life and enjoying every small moment will always inspire me to try and do the same. We are so close now! 🙏💕

Getting some work done around the farm while Bear continues to sleep and heal, he managed to eat a bit of lean beef mince today and some little bits and pieces of snacks so now he has a little food in his tummy i want him to keep sleeping. He knew I'd gone outside but because he's so tired he decided to move to this window to keep sleeping but also keep an eye on me 😄🥰 gosh he's the best thing in the world 💕 is managed to get Pio trimmed at least, but my back is so sore that's all I got done. Felt good to be outside in the sun though!

Day 21 post radiation! Bears face is really kicking into healing mode and his itchiness is pretty much gone which is SO good! BUT, on Wednesday he unfortunately had a sudden relapse of gastroenteritis which meant an emergency trip into my local vet for subcutaneous fluids and antinausea medication. Then yesterday he had minimal improvement so back to Hartley Valley Vets again with the amazing support of his radiation oncologist Dr Sarah at SASH for another round of subcutaneous fluids and we ran full bloods which came back today with thankfully unremarkable results (HUGE relief) his liver, kidneys and general organ function is actually in good shape! Especially considering everything he has been through and all the medication he has been on. But he still is back to refusing to eat, so we did another round of subcutaneous fluids today and ill continue to try get some nutrition into him over the weekend. I do feel like he is improving a little bit more each day, but the big thing now is keeping his gut healing again and getting some healthy food in his belly! We are SO CLOSE to the end of all this, its been a very emotional week this week to be honest and I truly have been running on virtually nothing left in me, i have never felt so emotionally defeated and exhausted. I just have to keep looking ahead of this and know that better days are still to come 💕
