🐾🍼 SUPPLEMENT FEEDING – GIVING OUR TINIEST PAWS A HELPING HAND ❤️
Behind every healthy litter of puppies is a lot of love, dedication, sleepless nights and sometimes a little extra helping hand. 🥰
Here at Brenlise Boxers, the health and wellbeing of our newborn puppies is always our number one priority.
While mother’s milk is undoubtedly the best source of nutrition for newborn puppies, there are times when supplement feeding becomes an important part of giving our little ones the best possible start in life.
🐾 WHY DO WE SUPPLEMENT FEED?
There are several reasons why a newborn puppy may benefit from additional feeding:
🍼 Large litters: When mum has several hungry little mouths to feed, milk supply may not always keep up with demand.
🍼 Smaller puppies: Some puppies are born smaller than their siblings and may struggle to compete for a place at the milk bar.
🍼 Slow weight gain: Monitoring daily weights helps identify puppies who may not be receiving enough nutrition.
🍼 Supporting mum: Supplement feeding can sometimes help ease the demands on a nursing mother while ensuring her babies receive adequate nutrition.
🍼 A little extra assistance: Occasionally, even a healthy, strong puppy needs some additional nutritional support.
❤️ MOTHER’S MILK ALWAYS COMES FIRST
Whenever possible, we encourage our puppies to nurse naturally from their mother, particularly during those crucial first hours when they receive colostrum.
Colostrum is rich in antibodies and provides vital immune protection during the earliest stages of life.
Supplement feeding isn’t about replacing mum. It’s about supporting her and ensuring every puppy has the opportunity to thrive.
🐶 IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT FILLING LITTLE TUMMIES
Supplement feeding newborn puppies requires patience, careful monitoring and an understanding of their delicate needs.
We monitor their weights, feeding behaviour, hydration and overall development closely.
Only appropriate puppy milk replacer should be used, and correct feeding techniques are essential. Newborn puppies must be warm enough to feed safely, and incorrect bottle-feeding can result in milk entering their lungs.
Any puppy struggling to suckle, failing to gain weight or showing signs of weakness needs prompt veterinary attention.
💕 THE LITTLE THINGS MAKE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE
Sometimes it’s the smallest puppies who require the biggest commitment.
Those extra feeds, regular weigh-ins, interrupted nights and countless hours of observation are all part of the responsibility that comes with bringing precious new lives into the world.
Breeding isn’t simply about welcoming adorable puppies. It’s about being prepared to provide whatever care and support they need, from their very first breath.
And when you see those tiny paws growing stronger, those little bellies filling out and the puppies thriving, every sleepless night is worth it. ❤️
