💉 Is your bunny's vaccination up to date? Calicivirus can be fatal to rabbits, so it's important to make sure your bunny is protected!

What you need to know:
✅ Check your rabbit's vaccination status. If your rabbit is unvaccinated or due for their annual booster, book in ASAP! Vaccination can take up to 7 days to provide protection.
✅ Indoor rabbits need protection too! The virus can be carried inside on shoes, clothing, flies and mosquitoes, or other pet's feet.

At Perth Pet Vet, every rabbit vaccination appointment includes a general health check with one of our experienced vets.

Contact us today to check your rabbit's vaccination status or book an appointment!

Please share to help keep our local bunnies safe. 🐰

⭐😄⭐Vet Nurses Day 2026 ⭐😄⭐

Today is all about our wonderful vet nurses. Veterinary nursing is so much more than cuddling cute animals (although there is definitely some of that!) Our nurses are anaesthetists, phlebotomists, radiographers, lab technicians, animal handlers, patient advocates and problem solvers.

They care for everything from the tiniest budgie to the biggest dog, and bring skill, compassion, patience and a whole lot of heart to work every single day.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful nursing team, and today is our chance to say a very big THANK YOU for everything you do — for our patients, our clients, our vets and each other.

Meet this handsome little bobtail, aptly named Bobby, who came in for a check-up this week after his owner had noticed a few changes in his health. We love seeing our reptile patients! Bobby particularly enjoys some head pats 🦎

As an exotics-friendly clinic, we’re happy to see reptiles for check-ups and when they’re feeling under the weather. If you have a scaly family member who isn’t quite themselves, or you simply want a health check, we'd be happy to help.

💊 New: Online Repeat Medication Requests 💊

Need more of a medication that we have previously prescribed for your pet? We’ve made the process easier!

Simply use our online repeat medication request form, locate your pet’s details and let us know which medication you need. One of our veterinarians will review the request, and we’ll send you a text when it’s ready to collect.

Click here to make your request: https://app.cw.vet/hosted/au/perthpetvetrefills

A few important things to know:
🐾 Your pet must have had a consultation with one of our vets within the last 6 months for ongoing medication.
💊 The medication must be appropriate for repeat dispensing and will be reviewed by one of our veterinarians.
⏰ Please allow up to 48 hours for requests to be processed.
📋 If a consultation is required before the medication can be dispensed, we’ll contact you to let you know.
✅ The medication needs to have been prescribed by us in the past, as we are unable to process scripts from other clinics.

We hope this makes managing your pet’s ongoing medications a little easier!

🐰💚 Happy International Rabbit Day! 💚🐰

Today we’re celebrating some of the many gorgeous bunnies who are friends of our clinic, whether they’re our patients or belong to members of our team 🥰

To celebrate, here are 5 fun rabbit facts:

🐇 1. Rabbits’ teeth never stop growing! Their diet needs to be high in fibre, with plenty of good-quality hay to help keep those teeth naturally worn down.

🥕 2. Carrots shouldn’t be their main meal! Despite what cartoons might have us believe, rabbits need mostly hay and grass, with leafy greens and a small amount of pellets as part of a balanced diet.

💩 3. Rabbits produce two types of droppings! They re-ingest their soft caecotrophs to absorb important nutrients — a completely normal and essential part of rabbit digestion.

👯 4. Rabbits are social animals. They generally thrive with appropriate rabbit companionship, with careful introductions and desexing helping to keep bonded pairs happy and healthy.

❤️ 5. Rabbits are experts at hiding illness. Changes in appetite, toileting, behaviour or activity can be an early sign that something isn’t right, so it’s important to have them checked by a vet if you notice a change.

Happy International Rabbit Day from all of us at Perth Pet Vet!

🐰💗 Big bunny cuddles at the clinic!

Khufu the beautiful Flemish Giant came in for a visit with Dr Carissa today and we couldn't resist sharing this gorgeous photo.

It's easy to see why Flemish Giants are known as the gentle giants of the rabbit world 🥰

🐍 Spring means snake bite season! 🐍

As the weather warms up, snakes become more active, and unfortunately, we start to see more snake bite cases in our pets.

The tricky part: you may never actually see your pet get bitten, and bite marks are easily hidden by their fur.

Watch for early warning signs, including:
• Sudden collapse & recovery: Your pet may suddenly drop or become wobbly, then appear to recover and seem completely normal a few minutes later
• Muscle tremors or twitching
• Excessive drooling or vomiting
• Dilated pupils
• Hind leg weakness or an unsteady gait

⚠️ If your pet displays any of the above signs, especially after being outside, treat it as an emergency.

Snake venom can cause rapid, life-threatening complications. Do not wait to see if they deteriorate or assume they are okay because they seem better.

Keep your pet calm, minimise movement and contact your veterinarian or 24-hour emergency centre immediately. 🐾
