Reactivity training isn’t just about changing the dog. When Schnitzel came to us, this little Mini Schnauzer had some pretty big feelings about other dogs, children, and strangers around the yard.

Through our Reactivity Transformation Program, we worked on helping Schnitzel make better decisions around her triggers, but just as importantly, we helped Tahyler learn how to read what Schnitzel was communicating, understand when she needed support, and feel more confident in how to handle those situations.

Because when you understand what your dog is telling you, and you know what to do next, life with a reactive dog starts to feel a whole lot less overwhelming. We’ll let Tahyler tell you the rest.

Most people who come to us with a reactive dog aren’t asking for perfection. They don’t care if their dog can walk in a flashy heel past every distraction, and they’re not expecting them to move through the world pretending other dogs don’t exist.

They just want life with their dog to feel easier. They want to be able to go for a walk without constantly worrying about what might be around the next corner. They want their dog to be able to notice another dog without every sighting immediately becoming a huge event. They want to understand when their dog needs more distance, when they’re able to work through something, what to do when things start going wrong, and how to help their dog recover afterwards. And they want to feel confident that they can actually handle those moments when they happen.

That’s what we’re working towards. Not a dog who never reacts again, not perfect obedience, and not a dog who looks impressive for a 30-second training video.

We’re working towards a dog who can make better decisions, recover more easily and cope with more of the real world, alongside an owner who understands the dog at the other end of their lead and knows what to do when things aren’t perfect.

Because good training should change more than what your dog can do during a training session. It should change what life with your dog actually feels like.

If seeing another dog on your walk makes your stomach drop, you’ve probably become pretty bloody good at avoiding them.

Crossing the road, changing direction, choosing quieter places, walking at different times, keeping enough distance — and honestly, sometimes those are exactly the right choices.

Management isn’t failing your reactive dog’s training.
But we also don’t want your entire life with your dog to revolve around avoiding every dog you might come across.

The goal is to give you more choices, to help you understand when your dog needs more distance, when they’re able to work through something, what to do when another dog appears unexpectedly, and how to help them recover when things don’t go perfectly.

For your dog, we’re working towards being able to notice what’s happening around them without every dog automatically becoming a huge event.

That doesn’t mean they’ll never react again, and it doesn’t mean you should suddenly start marching them towards every dog you see. It means that, over time, seeing another dog can become something you both know how to handle.

Because eventually, we’d really like you to be able to just walk your bloody dog without spending the entire time worrying about the next one.
