Redabout (Monty) was a super boy at his first ever competition - Leighdale Pony Club BEDS dressage day.

He ticked so many boxes today
Stayed cool and calm ✅
Straight up the centrelines ✅
Listened when I asked him to steady ✅
Halted ✅
Happily left his friends at the yards and warm up ✅

Today was ride number 10 for Monty post racing, I haven’t put as much time into him because of the other competition horses - so to come out and behave so beautifully is a testament to his nature.

Do we have things to work on? Absolutely!
Do we need to strengthen up his top line and muscles? Absolutely!

For now I am feeling very proud of this super cute fella! 16hh 9yo Black gelding 🥰🥰🥰

Arctic Highness (Hudson) and I went down to Colac Pony Club Combined Training Day in the Grade 3 (80cm) which was a lovely event - thank you to the committee and volunteers for such a super event!

Hudson made really good choices and there was so much to love from him today. A very proud rider and a very proud owner today Kylie Dempster Paige Dempster

🧐 One of my clients sent me an article the other day on how toxic the horse riding community can be… especially amongst clubs and agistment centres. It is something that does affect a lot of people and young riders… the push/desire to be the best.. the most wins.. the fanciest gear… the most talented horse etc…

My response was to advise to not buy into it. To not give it any ‘air’…. Gossip and bullying is like fire… it grows hotter and spreads faster with more oxygen. AND… you can guarantee if someone gossips or bags out someone to you… they will do the same to you when you’re not useful to them anymore.

NONE of us will be liked by everyone. So just find your people and stick to them.

It is hard to have thick skin sometimes… I do completely understand.. I have my share of haters.. what their opinion of me is not my problem. They’re usually people who have t coped with one of my classes… or been threatened by the volume of my clientele when they’re trying to attract new clients. Annoyed that I don’t compete yet still have a pretty good business as a coach and trainer… they are the people who desperately want me to fail so they feel validated.. it’s always a bit comical to me when I find out what someone outside my circle has been saying. They’re often people who are overly nice to me when I run into them elsewhere… I nod and smile while recognising they’re a snake in the grass and keep walking….

And do you know “why” I don’t care what the haters say? Well one I just don’t really have time to be bothered. But two - I know what I’m good at and what my weaknesses are. I don’t really care what some wannabe pro rider who has produced three horses in their entire life has to say. AND… if they do manage to sway someone else’s opinion towards me, cause a client to ditch me because they feel more aligned with the hater - then they’ve done me a favour and saved me wasting my time on someone who doesn’t deserve my help.

Trolls on my page get shut down immediately. Most have been fake accounts or clearly mentally unwell units from small towns I never knew existed.

The reason for this post is because I’m protective of my girls… especially my kids in this sport. It’s not just horses… everywhere in life people are going to want to cut you down.

Just don’t let them…. The best advice my Dad ever gave me was “Smile at your haters…wave and be really friendly to them as you keep walking!” And then he laughed and said “Watch how mad it makes them!” 😂😂😂 Because they’re not able to create the drama they want…

Choose your tribe… quietly cut time off from those who don’t deserve it and protect the ones who do like a damn Lioness!!

Then… you can REALLY enjoy this sport… and life because you choose your own people.

And to all the haters out there… you do make yourselves look like desperate fools when you try to bring other people down.. especially when they have twice your life experience and knowledge. Just stay in your own lanes and practice being kind!

Follow my Dads advice - “Laugh at your haters!” It will give you freedom.
