A little extra padding in winter feels harmless. For your pet's joints, it isn't.
As the weather cools, dogs get shorter walks and cats barely move from their warm spots. Appetite doesn't drop to match... if anything, pets tend to eat just as enthusiastically as ever. The result is a gradual weight gain that's easy to miss because it happens slowly and you see your pet every day.
Extra weight puts direct pressure on joints that are already being aggravated by the cold. For a pet already showing signs of stiffness or arthritis, even half a kilogram too many can make a noticeable difference to their comfort and mobility. It's one of the most manageable factors in joint health... and one of the most overlooked.

πΎ Old School Vet Tip:
You should be able to feel your pet's ribs without pressing hard, but not see them. That's a simple at-home check that tells you a lot. If you can't feel the ribs at all, it's worth adjusting. Come in for a weight check, it takes five minutes and costs nothing. We'll give you a straight assessment and a practical plan if needed.
