🖤 A special wildlife story from our team.

Recently, our clinic received an adult Tasmanian devil who was unfortunately suffering from Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). Due to the advanced nature of her disease, the only option was humane euthanasia. During her assessment, we discovered she had two joeys, who were able to be transferred into the care of an experienced wildlife carer 🌿

Being situated in the Huon Valley means our clinic sees more native wildlife than many veterinary practices. From orphaned joeys and injured birds to threatened species like the Tasmanian Devil, we’re proud to play an important role in providing veterinary care to Tasmania’s unique wildlife. 🖤

Tasmania has recorded its first confirmed case of bird flu (avian influenza) 🐦

While the current risk to pets remains low, it’s still important to take sensible precautions to help keep our pets safe:

🐾 Do not touch sick or dead birds.
🐕 Keep dogs on-lead and away from wildlife.
🐈 Keep cats indoors where possible.
🍗 Avoid feeding pets raw poultry or raw pet food.

If your pet becomes unwell after coming into contact with a bird, please contact your veterinarian for advice. Call before bringing your pet into the clinic so we can take appropriate precautions.

Animal Emergency Service Hobart will have reduced opening hours this week and will not be operating 24 hours.

We encourage all our clients to plan ahead and contact us during the day if you have concerns about your pet. Please don’t wait until night-time when veterinary options are limited.
