Familiar Face Friday! πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

As many of you may already know, Humpty Doo Vet got a new owner back in October last year and we think it’s time to put a face to the name and introduce Dr Alex Burleigh 🩺

Dr Alex is a former NSW boy, who found his way all the way up to the NT and has called the NT home for 25 years!

Dr Alex is also the owner of NT Veterinary Services, which oversees Humpty Doo Vet Hospital, Katherine Veterinary Clinic and Alice Veterinary Centre. You can catch Dr Alex at all 3 clinics each month!

Dr Alex comes with an array of skills that are very helpful for your pets in need. Some of those skills include:
🦴 Orthopaedic surgery (TPLO’s, fracture repairs, FHO’s and much more)
🌬️ BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) surgery
πŸ”” Behavioural consultations

Fun fact: Dr Alex has the BEST taste in music when it comes to background music at the clinic πŸ•ΊπŸΌ

We are so very lucky to have Dr Alex join our HDV team and we look forward to having him meet all of our wonderful clients πŸ‘πŸ»

πŸ“† International Dog Day 🐢

Today we spent the day celebrating the K9’s!
We celebrate them as pets, working dogs, service aids, fur-babies, best friends and much much more.

What would we do without our dogs by our side?

We’ve decided to dedicate a bit of love to the dogs behind the scenes of HDV, our staff members dogs 🀍

Thank you Chip, Macy, Rocky, Grip, Azera, Braxton, Pixie, George and Mac, for being by our side πŸ•

(And yes, there is 5 kelpies in our HDV dog group 🀣)

Humpty Doo Vet, servicing all animals, horns and all 🐐

On Monday, Dr Lucy and Nurse Lauren had the opportunity to meet Oreo and Woody, a couple of friendly goats due to be desexed βœ‚οΈ

Dr Lucy got to work, castrating both Oreo and Woody, while Nurse Lauren monitored their anaesthetics and recovery.

Both patients recovered well, both two stones lighter and back to being mischievous little guys πŸ‘πŸ»

If you have any goats that you would also like to be desexed, call our team on (08) 8988 3340

🚨 Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) 🚨

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL OWNERS, RESCUERS & HANDLERS πŸ“£

We have received a number of enquiries regarding Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) and want to ensure everyone is aware of what to look out for and what to do if they come across a bird suspected of having Bird Flu.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Is Bird Flu in the NT?
At this point in time, there have been no known detections of Bird Flu in the Northern Territory.

πŸ”Ž What symptoms should we look for?
WILD BIRDS - Unable to walk or stand / Droopy, weak or puffed-up appearance / Difficulty breathing / Unusual head or neck posture / Sudden death, particularly where multiple birds are affected
POULTRY (chickens, ducks, etc.) - Drop in egg production / Lethargy or unusual weakness / Swelling of the head or limbs / Bruising or discolouration / Difficulty breathing / Sudden death

πŸ„ Can other animals catch Bird Flu?
Yes. Avian influenza can infect other mammals, so appropriate precautions should be taken when handling potentially affected birds.

πŸͺΆ How is Bird Flu spread?
Bird Flu can be spread through contact with body fluids, droppings and feathers. It can also be spread indirectly through contaminated clothing, footwear and equipment.

If you come across a bird showing signs that may be consistent with Bird Flu, avoid unnecessary contact and do not handle the bird unless necessary. Follow the appropriate reporting and biosecurity procedures.

This one is for our younger Humpty Doo Vet friends 🫟🎨

We have decided it is time to brighten up our clinic windows, with none other than artwork by some of the finest artists in town 🎨

Not only is this a bit of fun for the younger ones, but we have also decided to add in a little prize for the best colouring in!

If you would like the opportunity for your little one to hang their artwork in our clinic, but also the chance for them to win a KONG toy for their furry friend at home, drop into our clinic and grab one of the colouring in pages from reception.

πŸ”” Pencils and crayons are also available at reception for your little ones to undertake this challenge during your pets consults ✏️

We will make a team decision on which colouring in takes the prize on Tuesday 15th September πŸ“†

Happy colouring in and stay tuned for updates πŸ†πŸŽ¨

Meet Mac! πŸΎπŸ’™

At just 6 months old, this handsome Australian Kelpie is already keeping busy… mostly by rounding up the kids and cats at home! πŸ•πŸ˜‚ Despite his working dog heritage, Mac is much happier supervising from the sidelines and enjoying a well-earned nap.

Over the coming months, Mac will be visiting the team at Humpty Doo Vet to be desexed, helping set him up for a happy and healthy future. 🩺

Even better, Mac’s family will receive $150 off the cost of his procedure thanks to the Litchfield Town Council Desexing Voucher Program. πŸ‘

If you’re planning to have your dog desexed, why not see if you’re eligible too? Head over to Litchfield Town Council to apply for your voucher, then give our friendly team a call on (08) 8988 3340 to book your pet’s procedure.

Nothing beats a little wind in your fur on the way to the vet! β˜€οΈπŸƒ

The very cool Patch and Tuppy stopped by yesterday to see Dr Lucy for their annual health check, and it’s safe to say they turned a few heads when they arrived. Their impressive ride had everyone at the clinic stopping for a look!

What made their visit even more special was learning that their owner is using this eye-catching setup to help raise awareness and funds for the Black Dog Ride β€” a wonderful charity dedicated to supporting mental health and increasing awareness of depression across Australia. πŸ–€

If you’d like to follow along with Patch and Tuppy’s adventures, be sure to check out their page, 2 Dogs.

Thank you for visiting us, Patch and Tuppy, and a huge thank you to your owner for the incredible work you’re doing to support such an important cause. We can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you! 🐾
