We had a big day of treatments yesterday! Caitlyn from Natural Health for Pets and Animals worked with some of my dogs using Bowen Therapy, Moxibustion, Acupuncture and Acutonics.

These therapies aren’t just for dogs who are unwell. They can be a great support for dogs with injuries, mobility issues, ongoing conditions and for older dogs who may just need a little extra support to keep them comfortable and moving well.

👐 Bowen Therapy – a gentle hands on therapy using light movements over muscles and soft tissue to help support relaxation, movement and comfort.

🪡 Acupuncture – uses very fine needles placed at specific points on the body to help support the body’s natural processes and wellbeing.

🎶 Acutonics – uses sound frequencies through specialised tuning forks to help promote relaxation and balance.

Caitlyn also offers other natural therapies and takes the time to understand each individual animal and what they need.

At Fat Boy Raw, giving back to the rescue community has always been at the heart of what we do.

To help even more dogs, I opened Sheltered Souls Rescue — giving dogs a second chance at life.

My boy Saint, lovingly known as Fat Boy was taken from me at just two years old. His loss wasn’t just bad luck — it was the result of genetic and structural issues linked to backyard breeding. That experience is why I take this stance so seriously.

Because of that, I absolutely do not support backyard breeding or irresponsible breeding practices.

If I become aware that a customer of mine is involved in backyard breeding or irresponsible breeding practices, I will no longer serve them in any capacity. I will not support it, I will not enable it, and I will not be involved in it in any way.

This business isn’t about money, it’s about doing right by dogs and standing up for dogs like Saint.

Meet Frank 🥹 We picked him up from the pound this morning and brought him into care. This beautiful boy is estimated to be around 1 year old.

He’s feeling a little unsure of everything at the moment, but his gentle, sweet nature is already showing through.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be learning some basic manners and building his confidence 💛

Are you actually allergic to dogs? 🐶

This is a bit of a random post, but it might help someone else or just give a bit of perspective.

I’m not allergic to dogs, however I do react to dogs sometimes.

This is something I’ve learned through my work in rescue, from my own personal experience with dogs coming into my care.

When dogs first arrive, I notice I can react quite quickly to them — my skin can feel sensitive or like it’s burning slightly, and my eyes can become watery, irritated, or start streaming.

From what I’ve noticed, this tends to be more noticeable when dogs have been fed a low quality diet, their skin and coat condition isn’t at its best.

What people usually call a dog allergy isn’t really about the dog itself, but reactions to things that come from the dog — like saliva, skin flakes and natural oils. These sit in their coat and also get transferred into their environment.

So when a dog’s skin and coat health is poorer, there can be more of those irritants present or more easily spread.

After a couple of weeks of a dog in care that has set me off, I don’t react the same way.

Same dog… just in a different condition.

I do wonder how often it’s not as simple as being allergic to dogs for some people 🤔🤷‍♀️
