A bitter sweet day for us at HVC!!

We are very sad to say goodbye to our vets Steph & Will who are beginning their next chapter in America. They have been a big part of our team for many years now and not only provided a high quality service but were also the life of the party.

We wish you all the best on your next adventure and hope to see you back in Holbrook soon

đŸŸ HAPPY VET NURSE DAY! đŸŸ
Today we celebrate the incredible humans who can somehow:
💉 Find a vein on a wriggly puppy
🐼 Wrestle a calf while still looking vaguely professional
đŸ± Convince a cat that yes, the carrier really is its idea
đŸ¶ Clean up things we’re pretty sure should never have existed
đŸ’© Identify a species purely by the smell
☕ Drink the same cup of coffee for 6 hours and still call it “fresh”
đŸ©ž Can wear blood, guts, snot and who-knows-what-else like it’s the latest fashion
đŸ§Ș Receive a completely random lab sample in an unlabelled container and somehow work out what it is, who it belongs to and whether it needs to be submitted or is in “hold” for some unknown reason

Our vet nurses are part nurse, part animal
whisperer, part counsellor, part cleaner, part receptionist, part magician, and occasionally part contortionist 😂
They do it all with skill, compassion, patience and an impressive tolerance for all sorts of bodily fluids.

May your veins be easy to find, your patients stay where you put them and do as you ask of them, your coffee remain hot for more than 14 seconds, and may nobody utter the words:
“It’ll only take five minutes.” 😂

So today, please join us in giving our vet nurses the recognition they deserve.
Thank you for keeping the patients alive, the vets organised, the clinic running and the rest of us laughing.

Happy Vet Nurse Day to the legends, lunatics and all-round bloody champions who keep this circus running. ❀

🐍 SNAKE BITE SEASON IS HERE!

❀ Meet Aslan!

Aslan was bitten by a black snake and became very unwell. He spent a week in hospital receiving treatment and monitoring before he was finally well enough to go home.

It was a long week for Aslan — and for his dedicated parents, who supported him every step of the way.

We’re very happy to say that Aslan pulled through! đŸ„° His story is a great reminder that although snake envenomation can be serious, prompt veterinary treatment gives our pets the best chance of recovery.

🚹 WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PET IS BITTEN

1ïžâƒŁ KEEP THEM CALM
Exercise can help venom spread through the body more quickly.

2ïžâƒŁ DO NOT CATCH OR KILL THE SNAKE 🐍❌
Your safety comes first. Do not attempt to handle the snake to identify it.

3ïžâƒŁ HEAD TO THE VETS
Even if your pet seems completely normal, don’t wait for symptoms to develop. Call us please so we can be prepare and be ready to administer prompt treatment on arrival.

The good news is that most dogs and cats can be treated with combination antivenom, which covers the common snake envenomations we see. This means that identifying the exact snake is generally not necessary for treatment.

Signs of envenomation can include weakness, wobbliness, vomiting, drooling, dilated pupils, muscle tremors, difficulty breathing, paralysis, collapse or dark/red urine.

đŸŸ If you suspect your pet has been bitten by a snake, treat it as an emergency and get them to a vet as soon as possible.
