With last month's marine fish and coral shipment selling through much faster than expected, we decided to sneak in an early delivery yesterday! 😎

Our latest selection of marine fish and corals is now settling in nicely and looking fantastic. Whether you're adding a new showpiece fish, filling a gap in the reef, or simply looking for some inspiration for your aquarium, now is a great time to drop in and take a look.

And with the long weekend upon us, you've got plenty of opportunities to visit:
📍 Saturday: Open until 4:00pm
📍 Sunday: 10:00am – 2:00pm
📍 Monday (Public Holiday): 10:00am – 2:00pm

As always, stock moves quickly, especially with marine arrivals, so don't leave it too long if you've had your eye on something special.

🌊🐠 MARINE SHIPMENT HAS LANDED 🐠🌊

Our newest marine shipment has arrived at Hobart Pet Centre — featuring a fresh selection of marine fish, corals, snails and starfish! ⭐🐌🪸

The coral tanks are looking vibrant, colourful and full of movement right now, with plenty of new additions to check out alongside some beautiful new fish and clean-up crew arrivals.

Whether you’re building your first marine setup, adding to an established reef tank, or simply enjoy admiring some incredible ocean life, there’s plenty to see in store this week.

🐦 Fresh Feathers Have Landed at Hobart Pet Centre! 🐦

We’ve had a lovely little bird delivery arrive in store and they’re already settling in beautifully!

Right now you’ll find:

✨ Zebra Finches (always full of life and chatter)
✨ Two stunning Canaries
✨ Three pairs of African Cut-Throat Finches – something a bit special 👀

🔥 A quick spotlight on the Cut-Throats:
These guys are a real standout for finch lovers… and for good reason:

• Named for the striking red “cut-throat” marking on the male’s throat
• Larger and more robust than your typical finch
• Full of personality — active, curious, and confident birds
• When settled, they can become quite bold and engaging in the aviary

💡 Keeping them successfully:
Cut-Throats do best when given a bit more space than smaller finches and really thrive in aviary-style setups. They appreciate:
• A quality seed mix with added protein (especially during breeding)
• Live or frozen foods (like mealworms) to keep them in top condition
• Shelter and structure — they enjoy perching options and a bit of cover

They’re not quite as “set and forget” as Zebra Finches — but give them the right setup and they are incredibly rewarding birds to keep.

Pop in and check them out next time you’re in — they won’t sit still for long, but that’s half the fun 😄

Some of you know him as the guy behind the tanks here at Hobart Pet Centre… but what you might not know is he’s an absolute weapon in the pool as well.

Next week Cal is representing Tasmania at the Australian Country Water Polo Championships — and this isn’t new territory for him:

🏆 2nd time competing at this event
🏆 19+ times representing Tasmania across state & national comps
🏆 Up against 10 state teams from around Australia this year

On top of that, Cal has also given back to the sport as a junior coach, helping bring through the next generation. That says a lot about the bloke.

We’re incredibly proud to have him as part of our team and flying the Tassie flag once again 💙

And before anyone says anything… yes, we’re aware the tattoos didn’t make it into the photo — must’ve washed off in the pool 😉
