Keep chipping away at it, you will get there. Puppies are both fun & frustrating. There’s tons of different ways to show & shape behaviour with your puppy, play with them try stuff, see what works for you & the pup, they are all different. Clear markers paired with a valuable positive reinforcement like food produces a great result. This 4x month old girl is highly motivated to work for her meals & enjoys the challenge!

Unlocking a meaningful source of positive reinforcement for your dog is a crucial building block in your training journey.
Positive reinforcement provides excellent forward momentum & enthusiasm into desired behaviour.
Using play as a positive reinforcement tool can mitigate the limitations of food & stay meaningful to the dog long after their appetite for a treat has been satiated.
For Penny (pictured) unlocking play as a motivator has been a game changer! She is happier, more confident than ever & it’s even helped her to overcome many anxieties that she was struggling with.

Unlock Your Dog's Inner Calm: Decoding Anxiety in Our Modern World

Imagine asking your great-grandparents if their loyal companion suffered from anxiety. You'd likely be met with a puzzled look, perhaps even a hearty laugh! So, what's shifted so dramatically in just a few generations? The answer, in short, is the world itself.
We've plunged headfirst into an increasingly urbanized existence, and the lives of our beloved dogs have undergone a seismic transformation. Think about it: smaller yards, more indoor time, an almost constant human presence, and a growing list of "house rules." Add to this the influence of social media, which often paints an unrealistic picture of canine perfection, and it's no wonder our expectations are sky-high!
But there's another crucial piece to this puzzle: our understanding and application of pressure in shaping behavior. Fifty years ago, many households were intimately connected to "practical animals." Whether it was tending chickens, guiding horses, managing cows, or herding sheep, humans learned the subtle language of animal husbandry from a young age. They developed an innate understanding of pressure – how to apply it fairly and effectively to encourage, guide, reassure, or even activate desired actions.
Today, that intuitive knowledge is often lost unless you've had a dedicated mentor in dog training or delved into the world of horsemanship. The cultural shift towards positive reinforcement has been revolutionary, but it has inadvertently led to a shunning of physical communication, often mislabeled as mere force and compulsion.
In its place, bribery – the constant doling out of treats – has become a widely accepted training method. While often effective, its misapplication can lead to a dog that only listens when a reward is in sight, or worse, completely ignores commands when no incentive is offered.
So, is rewarding your dog bad? Absolutely not! Is it wrong to teach your dog through the nuanced application of pressure and release? Not at all!

The question then becomes: how do we bridge this gap in understanding?

At Equipped K9, we're passionate about empowering dog owners with a clear grasp of instrumental conditioning techniques. We believe that by understanding the science behind how dogs learn, you can unlock a deeper level of communication and foster more positive behavioral outcomes with your furry friend.
Ready to move beyond fleeting compliance and build a truly harmonious relationship with your dog?

Here’s a look at a Dog-Day Training Session with one of our regulars, Titus the CaneCorso. I am using my litter of puppies as a distraction for him to work through & teaching them to calm down around other dogs.
