🐾 Puppy Socialisation: Quality Over Quantity

During a puppy’s critical socialisation period, it’s important to introduce them to the right animals, not just as many animals as possible.

I carefully select animals that have been raised around dogs and are relaxed, confident and comfortable interacting with an excitable puppy. 🐶🐴🐱

I also train my own animals to approach calmly, remain relaxed and interact slowly and appropriately. This helps create positive, controlled experiences where puppies can learn how to communicate, read body language and interact respectfully with different species.

Socialisation isn’t about letting your puppy meet everything. It’s about teaching them how to navigate the world safely and confidently.

This is the set up that I use for all the pups that go through my detection puppy development program.
1. The crate gives them a place to rest
2. If you have other animals in the house it gives a barrier for them to adjust
3. It’s a place that they can go while they learn the rules about the house.

I had the pleasure of visiting one of the most caring and thoughtful breeders in Australia this week. Their dogs are clearly number one and are cared for like members of the family. The thought and care that goes into their nutrition, wellbeing, and breeding program really shows. Producing beautiful, sound working line Labradors. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a breeder who genuinely puts the dogs first.

On International Dogs Day, I want to put a highlight on my working dog team. Frankie, Sherlock and Toast are 3 very special dogs. All trained in water leak detection and Toast trained across three disciplines. They are absolute super stars at their job.
