Ups & downs...
The last 12 months have probably been our hardest from a breeding and horse ownership perspective. We survived the toughest drought we have experienced so far with both hay and water shortages for months on end. We finally got good rains, which continued into hay baling just to make things tricky but we got there in the end.
Unfortunately, both our expectant mares lost their pregnancies, so we have no 2025 foals.
The crazy Spring weather saw mares not cycling properly, if at all, and ours were no different. Some disappointing results, but we do have one confirmed pregnancy...
Ischia is positive to Siglavy Bekescsaba with the foal due mid November. First option is in place for a filly, but a c**t will be available for sale. While she is our only successful pregnancy this year, it is an important one as Ischia is an older mare and has finally overcome her cervix issue from two years ago. Ildike is her most recent foal, and every foal that Ischia can still produce will be an asset to the Australian Lipizzaner population.
Looking on the bright side, we have commenced our next big fencing project to give us more much needed paddocks. We would have really struggled this year with housing arrangements for wet mares, but our new paddocks will create a much more workable layout moving forward and give us the freedom to make our 2026 breeding season bigger and better.
Onwards and upwards!
