One of the hardest parts of owning Charlie & Mia’s Barkery is saying goodbye when our customers move away.
People often assume I’ll miss the business, but honestly, that’s not what makes me sad.
What I miss are the dogs, and the owners who’ve become like family.
Over the years I’ve watched so many of them come through our doors as tiny puppies, nervous rescues, cheeky adolescents, and then grow into happy, healthy adults surrounded by people who absolutely adore them. I’ve celebrated birthdays, heard countless stories of adventures, seen wagging tails race through the door, and handed out more treats than I could ever count.
Every dog that visits the Barkery has their own unique personality. Some charge straight to the treat counter, some sit patiently waiting, some demand cuddles first, and some pretend they’re not interested while secretly keeping one eye on the treats. I get to know their little quirks, their favourite snacks, and the people who love them.
When a family tells me they’re moving away, there is always a little sadness. It’s a strange feeling because they’re not just customers. They’re part of the Barkery family.
I’ll miss the tail wags, the cuddles, the excited greetings, and the conversations with their owners. I’ll miss hearing how they’re doing and watching them grow.
That’s what makes Charlie & Mia’s Barkery special to me. It’s never just been about selling dog treats. It’s about community, friendships, and a genuine love of animals.
The long hours, early mornings, and hard work are worth it because of the wonderful people and dogs I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way.
So to every family who has ever walked through our doors, thank you for letting me be a small part of your journey. And to those who are moving on to their next adventure, please know you’ll always have a special place in my heart.
Once part of the Barkery family, always part of the Barkery family. ❤️🐾
