​If you own a smaller breed, especially a Toy Poodle, Maltese, or Chihuahua, you have likely seen them turn into a little vibrating washing machine the moment they walk into the vet clinic, a busy park, or the grooming salon.

​As pet parents, our hearts instantly sink. We assume they are frozen in pure terror or experiencing trauma.

​But biologically? You might be completely misreading the room.

​Welcome to "Psychogenic Tremors" (aka: The Sports Car Effect) ​Smaller breeds possess a naturally high metabolic rate and an incredibly sensitive nervous system. Their internal engines essentially "idle" at a much higher RPM than a big Golden Retriever.

​When they enter an environment where they know a specific routine is about to happen, their brain instantly releases a massive wave of adrenaline and cortisol. This isn't automatically a sign of fear, it is pure anticipation and hyper-focus.

​Because they have such tight, compact little muscle masses, that sudden, explosive surge of kinetic energy has nowhere to go. Their nervous system processes this sudden backlog of internal electricity by shivering to safely burn it off.

​Think of it like this: It is exactly the same as a human getting intense butterflies, a racing heart, or shaky hands right before they step onto a stage to give a big speech or ride a roller coaster. They aren't in physical danger or pain; their body is just firing on absolutely all cylinders to prepare for what’s next! ⚡

​The moment they get into their rhythm and that adrenaline naturally flushes out of their system, the vibrations stop.

​So the next time your little one starts to shiver at check-in, take a deep breath. They aren't broken, and you shouldn't feel guilty, their little sports car engine is just revving up! 🤍

Posting this because I had a conversation that I have had many times over the years just yesterday.

The groom was a rescue. No it wasn't. It was a purchase from a puppy miller. The prospective owner was told 'buy it now or I will kill it later '. This is the classic line of a puppy miller. Not a back yard breeder, a puppy miller. Know the difference. Now here is a legitimate poodle breeder describing the hand over expectations from a legitimate breeder. Ginger bread Poodles.

Take your time when looking for your next dog. Your not buying a product off the shelf. If you have that immediate expectation you will be e knocked back by the best breeders and are the open to the vultures.

If it feels funny, know it is. Walk. The puppy you leave behind will prevent another 50, 100, 500 etc. you can expect the process to take the same time as having a human baby. Ya gotta breath and wait for the snooky to hatch, right? Consider it the same on getting a new dog. Sit, watch and observe the dog. Smart, responsive legs moving fine? Alert? Be ack line straight, legs up right? Eyes clear? Now, how do you feel? Hesitant. Question why. Prepare to walk, no dog. The right one will come your come your way.

Just remember thinking you are rescuing one can be killing many. Seek good breeders. The money you spend initially will save you much more in the long run.

When reaching out to a breeder, please remember — this is not a marketplace transaction.

Responsible breeders do not produce “items for sale.” We raise living beings we are deeply attached to. Every puppy is planned, cared for, and known to us as an individual long before they ever meet their future family.

We absolutely understand that buyers want to ask questions and be cautious — that is reasonable. But there is a difference between thoughtful questions and approaching a breeder as if you are negotiating over a commodity or demanding answers on your terms.

Most breeders also have a process in place for selecting homes. It may include application forms, interviews, video calls, or waiting lists. This process exists for a reason — to protect the puppies and, honestly, to protect the breeder’s time and emotional investment as well.

Trying to push, rush, or reshape that process rarely leads anywhere.

And one more thing — placing a puppy is not “sell and forget.”
We don’t do one-off transactions. We are looking for the right people — those who share our values and treat their dogs with the same love and respect that we do. The kind of families we are happy to stay in touch with for years to come. In many cases, our puppy owners become part of our extended kennel family.

Respectful communication matters.

Current update: dog is staying with owner as problem is resolved. Yay!

This is Pal. 12 month desexed male Jack Russell. Owner is very sad but needs to rehome due to circumstances. This pooch gets along well with other dogs and cats.

Oh my! Poodle puppy transformation. Females 4 months.
Had another client waiting for grooming but was watching through the window transfixed by the process shaping these babies up.
Brace yourself. These little girls are available and better still they are now half price. They need to find their forever homes before the breeder can't part with them.

Oh my! Poodle puppy transformation. 4 month old females. Had another client waiting for grooming. She was standing outside the window and was enthralled watching the process.
I love my job.
Brace yourself. The two little girls are available. Pure Poodles and are now at half price as the breeder is falling in love and is very close in not letting them go.
Give me a call and I'll pass you on to the breeder. I can't answer your questions as I'm just the lucky groomer.

Just one example of what I get up to outside of work. That is all thistles pulled out of this property. It took me over a month. Lots of clearing done at home too. It's been a mad season of clean up and the worst is done. The sheep are my beautiful Persians.

Thankyou dear clients. I really appreciate the love. Sat on my table teary eyed with the photo Christmas card. One of the dogs is an elder dog and this was one of the most beautiful cards I have received.
I love my job and my clients are not just numbers. I appreciate the journey and the precious relationships with dogs and owners.
Just a couple of days to go before Christmas. I opened up another day for last minute grooms.
