Here’s some male combat, these two male Yellow-faced Whipsnakes were fighting in the middle of town yesterday. The goal is to twist around your opponent and raise your head above the other and pin them to the ground, sort of like a thumb war. The stronger snake gains breeding rights with the nearby female.

*For everyone commenting that this is mating, I might have to do a separate video on that to show the difference.

Young Eastern Browns can be quite vibrant compared to adults. The camera doesn’t do it justice but this juvenile was covered in light bands and speckles that it’ll lose as it grows older.

Another Eastern Brown Snake removed from a garage in Southside today. It was only a young snake which are sometimes more difficult to catch, and still just as deadly.

The home owners young boy did a great job, when he saw the snake he went straight to tell dad and didn’t try to approach it.

*Apologies for the average camera angle, you see the snake at the end, I’ll be better on the next one*

Here’s a closer look at our Eastern Brown Snake who was getting busy in the rock wall. They’re a very switched on species and respond to movement very well. You can see his tongue flicking fast as he’s smelling the air and being very cautious before coming out of the bag.

I try not to mess around on snake catches and wave the snakes around on camera. The snakes are usually on edge already from being discovered by home owners, so it’s straight into a catch bag and out to the nice and quiet release site with as little handling from me as needed.

They get a bad rap our brown snakes but when treated properly they are calm and happy to just go about their day.

A really nice Eastern Brown Snake from today.

There were two snakes mating in this rock wall, I only have one chance to grab them before they disappear into the abyss behind the rocks. I managed to grab one, which I’m now thinking is the male. We might be back for the other snake soon.

Although there’s plenty of lovely land around the property, the house is just behind me and this is actually the front garden. There’s plenty of room behind the property for snakes but unfortunately this one made its home too close to the house.

Nice little Red Belly we pulled out of a car in town last night, this is definitely a better spot for him 👌

That’s two Eastern Browns the last two days, this one was very full from all the rats running around this chicken coop. There were so many rat holes and nooks for him to escape into it was a tricky catch.

I tried to get him to go straight into the bag himself, sometimes they can regurgitate their food when handled or stressed out but he wasn’t going for it.

Another Carpet Python relocated today, he was making a lot of noise and a bit of a mess of this roof space. We moved him into the state forest down the road where he should be very happy for the season 👌

Another healthy Carpet Python relocated from a house in Traveston today. He should be happy in this great spot of bushland nearby 🐍
