I can come to you to worm your pets!

Do you own a dog or have contact with dogs? Be aware of Hydatid Disease.
Dogs can get Hydatid Disease from eating raw animal organs (offal). It doesn’t harm dogs, but it can make people very sick and can even be fatal.
People can get infected with hydatid tapeworm eggs via hand-to-mouth transfer after touching dogs, or items with dog poo on them, such as beds, bowls and toys.
Remember:
Never feed raw animal organs (offal) to dogs (‘offal’ includes liver, heart, kidneys, lungs, guts and brain)
Worm dogs at least every 3 months (wormer must contain ‘praziquantel’)
Wash your hands after touching dogs
Hydatid disease in humans is very rare in Tasmania these days, but it took a 30-year campaign to reach that point. Let’s keep it that way!

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) and Cats
There is a very low, but possible risk that cats could become infected with the avian influenza virus if it becomes established in our bird and wildlife populations. Cats get very sick over 1-2 days, and unfortunately many die from bird flu infections. Cats often show neurological or respiratory signs, which include wobbliness, circling, seizures, coughing, sneezing or nasal discharge.
There are some simple steps that you can take to further reduce the risk to your cat:
🔸️Keeping cats indoors, or only having supervised outside time.
🔸️Limiting or ideally preventing contact with wildlife. This includes preventing access to droppings, and also removing food or water sources that may be contaminated by wildlife.
🔸️Eating raw food (especially poultry) has been linked to cases in other countries. To inactivate the virus, all food needs to be well cooked (chicken internal temperature needs to be 75 degrees to inactivate the virus). Freezing of food does not inactivate the virus, and so frozen foods also need to be cooked before consumption. Freeze drying of foods may not inactivate the virus.
Unfortunately there are no vaccinations available for domestic pets. Preventing or minimising the risk is better than hoping for a cure if your cat were to become infected.

Beautiful Ebony the Labradoodle and Lagatha the Kelpie Pit bull cross. Both had very long nails but were a delight. Sweet natured and one a little excited but we got there. New clients too. Both dogs in their teens and too hard to load in the car for a Vet trip. I come to you so we did them in their beds :P

Microchipped these 2 babies today. Close to the heart as my dog Freddie is their dad! Else and Anna, ready to go to their new homes in a few weeks. Happy I got to see them today.

This is little Posie, the Italian Greyhound I microchipped with her siblings a while back. She is now safely transferred to her new owners which Central Animals Records provide breeders for free. Have a great life little one 💐

INGROWN NAILS IN PETS. 🐱🐹🐰🐾

Your dog's nail seems to be growing incorrectly, which might lead to it becoming ingrown. It can also happen to nails that are too long.
While he may not be in significant pain right now, his occasional limping and licking suggest some discomfort that should be addressed.

Check your dog's nail regularly for changes or signs of pain.
Ingrown nails can cause infections if not treated.
A vet/vet nurse visit will help prevent further complications.

Frequent trimming is essential.

An ingrown nail occurs when a dog's nail grows into the paw pad or skin, which can lead to pain or an infection.

While your dog doesn't seem to be in a lot of distress, it's important to monitor the situation. If the nail continues to grow improperly or your pet shows increased signs of discomfort, a visit to the vet or nurse is advisable to prevent further issues.
