Client horses ——> 🍃

It’s been a busy couple of months!
Competitions, clinics, lessons, horses in for education and so much more!

A clip of only a few of the lovely horses I’ve been working with 👏📷

I’m always so incredibly grateful for owners who put their trust in me to educate and care for their 4 legged babies 🫶
We are so lucky to have some of the best facilities here at Elite Equestrian Academy.

Let’s talk about professional horse trainers ⭐️->

I think a lot of people simply don’t realise how much actually goes into running a horse training business.

When you pay a trainer, you’re not simply paying for the riding hours.

You’re paying for far more.

A horse in training is a responsibility 7 days a week, not just the days they are worked.

Even if a horse is ridden or worked 5 days a week, those other 2 days still involve:
• Morning feed out
• Evening feed out
• Fresh water
• Checking their condition and behaviour
• Monitoring for anything out of the ordinary
• Rug changes and weather management
• Paddock and stable management
• General handling and care

And then there’s everything that happens around the actual training.

A trainer is assessing the horse every day — how they are feeling, how they are progressing, what they struggled with in the previous session, what needs to be addressed next and whether they are physically and mentally ready for the work being asked of them.

Not every session is about getting on and doing more.

Sometimes the most valuable work is groundwork, desensitising, educating, correcting a misunderstanding, building confidence, giving the horse a rest, or simply allowing them time to process what they have learned.

There are also the business costs that people don’t always see.

Feed, hay, bedding, fuel, arena and facility maintenance, equipment, saddlery, insurance, property expenses, transport, administration, cleaning, repairs, professional development and countless other overheads all come with operating a horse training business.

And perhaps most importantly — the responsibility.

When someone puts their horse in your care, they are trusting you with an animal that is incredibly valuable, both financially and emotionally.

That responsibility doesn’t switch off when the riding session finishes.

Now, multiply all of that by 2, 3, 4 or more horses.

Every. Single. Day.

Morning feed. Evening feed. Checking horses. Working horses. Cleaning. Maintaining facilities. Planning training. Handling unexpected situations. Answering messages. Organising owners. Updating owners on their horses progress. Managing the business — and then doing it all again the next day.

Does the trainer get a day off? Nope!

Even on a so-called “day off”, the horses still need to be fed, watered, checked and cared for.

So when comparing the price of trainers, look beyond the riding rate, because it’s so much more than that.

Professional horse training is not simply charging for the hours spent in the saddle.

It is charging for the knowledge, experience, time, facilities, care, responsibility and commitment that comes with having somebody else’s horse in your hands.

And at the end of the day, be kind to your trainers. 🤍

We do it because we love it.

We love the horses.
We love seeing them learn.
We love watching confidence grow.
We love the little breakthroughs that nobody else sees.

The early mornings, late nights, weekends and constant responsibility are all part of it.

Because when you truly love horses, their care never feels like “just a job”. 🐴🤍
