Parasite protection is important all year round - even during winter โ„๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Fleas donโ€™t disappear just because the weather cools down. In fact, we still regularly see flea infestations throughout Victorian winters, particularly in warm indoor environments, and why year round parasite prevention is so important for both dogs and cats.

We recommend products such as NexGard Spectra, which provides broad spectrum protection against fleas, ticks, heartworm and intestinal worms in one convenient monthly chew.

We also offer a range of other parasite prevention options, including long acting veterinarian administered injections.

Little Ivar visited our Inverloch clinic today for his first vaccination and microchip appointment. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’‰

Safe to say he was far more interested in playing with Amanda and Ruby than worrying about his needles. He had so much fun he barely even noticed them, even jumping straight into some admin work right after. Check out that face ๐Ÿฅน

Veterinary Services over the King's Birthday Long Weekend ๐Ÿ‘‘

With the King's Birthday long weekend fast approaching, we would like to ensure our clients have adequate time to prepare for possible medication supply delays and irregular opening hours.

Our vets will be available for EMERGENCIES ONLY over the King's Birthday three-day long weekend from 5:30pm Friday 5th June to 8:30am Tuesday 8th June 2026.

An after-hours fee applies to all consultations seen during this period.

All companion animal emergencies will be seen at our WONTHAGGI clinic (290 White Rd, Wonthaggi) over the King's Birthday long weekend.

If you have a companion, equine or farm animal emergency, please call your regular clinic and you will be redirected to the after-hours team.

There will be no clinics open for medication ordering/collection on the long weekend. If your pets or livestock require ongoing medications, please check that you have a sufficient supply to get you through the long weekend or place your order by Monday 1st June and collect by Friday 5th June from your nominated clinic.

If you are travelling over the King's Birthday long weekend, now is the time to ensure your pet is up to date with vaccination and are current on their flea, tick and worming prevention.

We wish all our clients and their animals a very safe and happy King's Birthday long weekend for 2026.

The GVG Team.

Locum Position Available | Companion Animal Veterinarian

July - Aug 2026

Looking for a winter sea or tree change? ๐ŸŒ…

If you have ever dreamed of leaving the big smoke and moving to the regions, a locum position with Gippsland Veterinary Group could be your next adventure.

Gippsland Veterinary Group is a privately owned practice with 8 clinics across the beautiful Bass Coast and South Gippsland regions, extending from Phillip Island in the west through to Wilsons Promontory and Foster in the east.

Working as a rural small animal GP can be incredibly rewarding, as described by one of our senior vets who made the move from Melbourne six years ago:

โ€œThe lifestyle is far less stressful, houses are more affordable, the air is fresher and we are not working late into the evenings. The veterinary work involves a diverse range of cases which we can mostly manage in house thanks to our team of more than 30 talented vets across the group. And if you miss the city life, Melbourne is only 1 to 2 hours away.โ€
Dr Ildiko Plaganyi BVSc MANZCVS

Our clinics are well equipped with all the tools you would expect from a city practice, including ultrasound, dental radiology, endoscopy and advanced surgical equipment.

Whether you are looking for a short-term locum opportunity, a lifestyle change, or simply a chance to experience regional practice, we would love to hear from you. We also have opportunities for ongoing employment for the right people who are looking to make a more permanent move.

Why not come and spend some time with our friendly and supportive team to see if Gippsland Veterinary Group is the right fit for you?

Parasite protection is important all year round - even during winter โ„๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Fleas donโ€™t disappear just because the weather cools down. In fact, we still regularly see flea infestations throughout Victorian and Gippsland winters, particularly in warm indoor environments. Even if you donโ€™t see fleas on your pet, it doesnโ€™t rule out an infestation - fleas can jump on and off pets without being noticed.

Parasites can also spread disease to both pets and people, making year-round prevention especially important for the whole household.

๐Ÿ”น We recommend products such as NexGard Spectra, which provides broad spectrum protection against fleas, ticks, heartworm, intestinal worms, and mites in dogs - all in one convenient monthly chew.

๐Ÿ”น There are many parasite prevention options available, including spot-on treatments, chewable tablets, topical products, long-acting veterinarian administered injections, and now even yearly injection options.

๐Ÿ”น Intestinal worms can affect both dogs and cats, even indoor pets.

๐Ÿ”น Ticks are also spreading further south and may hitchhike into cooler areas on people, pets, vehicles, camping gear, or clothing - potentially exposing pets who havenโ€™t travelled themselves.

The new and improved โ€œchicken and riceโ€ โ€“ Buy 10 get your 11th bag FREE! ๐Ÿ— ๐Ÿš Gastrointestinal Diet from Royal Canin.

When dogs are experiencing digestive upset, many owners turn to old fashioned home cooked chicken and rice. For any episode of gastrointestinal upset, a prescription gastrointestinal diet such as Royal Canin Gastrointestinal is recommended over chicken and rice, as it provides more complete and targeted nutritional support for recovery.

Royal Caninโ€™s Gastrointestinal diets are now available at our clinic and are designed to support digestive health with highly digestible ingredients and carefully balanced nutrition. These diets are veterinarian recommended and formulated to help dogs get back to feeling their best.

If your dog has ongoing tummy troubles, speak to our team to see whether a gastrointestinal diet may be appropriate.
