THE UPDATE WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR: DOG REMOVED, MAN CHARGED IN BROADBEACH CRUELTY CASE

We can confirm that Queensland Police have charged a 41-year-old man in relation to an animal cruelty investigation in Broadbeach.

The man was taken into custody today and has been charged with animal cruelty. He is due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on 18 May.

The dog is now in the care of the RSPCA.

We want to thank everyone who cared and all the witnesses who assisted, and most importantly QPS for their quick action ❤️

UPDATE: the dog has now been successfully forfeited and will not be returned to the alleged offender 🐾

Yep… even though antibiotics are still being handed out all the time.

✅ Kennel cough is usually mild, self-limiting, and in many cases is viral

👉 Antibiotics don’t work on viruses
👉 Most dogs just need time + support

But they should be for the dogs that are actually really unwell because the more we overuse them, the less effective they become when we truly need them.

👉 We should only be using antibiotics when they are absolutely necessary.

If you want to add collagen to your dogs diet, just add collagen powder, it's well recieved and mixes in well.

VIC RESCUE ORG NEEDED!!!!

Yesterday this teeny British Bulldog girl was rushed into care. Born on the 24th of December (my birthday too) with a cleft lip.

Despite her breeder syringe feeding, she understood that this puppy was in crisis. Pleading with her vet to show her how to tube feed, the breeder was refused and was encouraged to put puppy on mum (something you absolutely do not do with cleft anything).

So at 10 days old, I agreed to take puppy into care to stabilize her. She was anorexic, extremely dehydrated and really not thriving.

Over night she has gained 40grams of weight (not milk weight).

Life of Pikelet has been closed to ALL intakes for over a month now, and I have turned away over 20 puppies needing rescue. I haven’t had anyone to refer as all the special needs specific rescues like us, are either at capacity or so far away that transport would be impossible.

As a rescue, and as the Rescue Director, I need to stay firm with “no intakes”. And so, I’m putting this out there now:

Please contact me with your name, org and phone number if you can take on this puppy as a surrender.

I have promised the breeder to find and vet a rescue before I handover this little puppy. My criteria is super simple but very much important, I hope you can understand.

- We must have a phone conversation. I will not coordinate a surrender to someone that just wants to message
- You must have a *rescue source number* (I will not surrender to anyone who does not have rescue registration).
- there must be a TUBE feeder carer that can take on this puppy, syringe feeding or bottle feeding isn’t working for this pup.
- preferable that you have access to an incubator for the duration of her first 4 weeks in care (till she’s about 6 weeks).
- it not negotiable that you must be willing to remain in contact with the breeder. This is her first surrender & first experience working with rescue and communication around the development of this little girl will ensure that this breeder will reach out to rescue in the future or encourage others to, over just euthanizing a differently abled pup.
