🐾 HOME STAY & TRAINING: CLEO | DAY 4 🐾
🌧️ It’s a rainy morning, but that doesn’t mean training stops!

Cleo has been out for her morning walk, and now it’s the perfect time to work on her mat training.

With Peanut the Chihuahua watching on, Cleo certainly has her very own Peanut Gallery keeping a close eye on her progress! 😂🐾🥜

🏡 HOME STAY & TRAINING: CLEO 🐾
Cleo was out and about with me today as I met up with another trainer to proof our dogs around one another. 🐶

Cleo did really well staying by my side, even as I made random turns and changed direction like a drunk person! 😂🍷

The idea is to teach her that when we’re walking together, I can be unpredictable, so she needs to keep an eye on me and stay connected rather than switching off and doing her own thing. 👀🐾

Cleo hasn’t shown much interest in food rewards so far, so we’re learning what motivates her and finding ways to make training rewarding for her. Not every dog is food-driven, and that’s okay! We just need to find what works best for her. 💪

It’s only Day 3 of her training, and she’s doing super well! ❤️ We’re building the foundations, creating engagement and helping her learn that checking in with me is always worthwhile.

Small steps, consistency and lots of learning along the way! 🐾✨

PROGRESS REPORT: I love it when clients send us videos of their progress. Skipper came out for a lesson just last Friday. He was pulling on lead and being silly on the stairs barking at the dog next door. Silly on the stairs can lead to an accident! In just five days, his owners have achieved so much. Well done 👏 So proud of you guys 🐶

🐾 HOME STAY & TRAINING: CLEO 🐾

Cleo has been with us for just 24 hours and is very much still settling into her new environment. ❤️

The first stage of any home stay is about giving each dog time to decompress, feel comfortable and adjust to their surroundings. Good training starts with building the right foundations and allowing each dog the time they need to learn.

We’ve already started working on her “wait” command to help develop impulse control and introduce the concept of a release cue. It’s very much a work in progress at this stage! 😂

We’ve also begun working on loose-lead walking, as Cleo initially wanted to pull on the lead. The aim is to help her learn that walking nicely beside us is more rewarding than pulling ahead.

All training starts one-on-one, giving Cleo the time and space to process each exercise without unnecessary distractions. As her understanding and confidence grow, we’ll gradually introduce the added distraction of the other dogs.

Every dog is an individual, and progress comes from patience, consistency and setting them up for success. We’re already laying the foundations for Cleo’s training, building her understanding one step at a time so we can develop reliable behaviours that last.

Good training is a process, not a race. 🐾✨

VALE R***R 🖤🐾
Today is a terribly sad day for us at Found By The Hound as we mourn the passing of my beautiful Malinois, R***r.

R***r certainly tackled life full-on and was exceptional at everything he did. Whether it was obedience, evidence searching, bite work, or simply sharing his beautiful cuddles, he excelled at it all.

He was a remarkable dog with an incredible work ethic, a huge heart, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Our hearts are broken, and he will be missed more than words can ever express.
Run free, R***r. 💔🐾

HOME STAY & TRAINING: POMPEY
Pompey had a lovely morning at Burleigh today as we proofed his training. That drop stay is fiiinallly happening 😂

HOME STAY & TRAINING: POMPEY
Pompey has the rare Home Stay privilege of being able to run around the whole property (it’s fully dog proof fenced) and without a lead attached. Why? Cause his recall is always reliable. 🚀

HOME STAY & TRAINING: POMPEY 🐾
Pompey has earned the privilege of being off lead around here now, and he’s “helping” me with the chores. 😂

He likes to be a bit of a scallywag and bark at the horses, but he’s also really good at coming away when he’s called.

We recently had a client question how, by keeping a dog on lead and managing their behaviours, they eventually learn to behave when they’re off lead.
Well… like this!! 👏
You don’t just take the lead off and hope for the best. You manage, teach, reinforce and gradually give them more freedom as they’re ready for it.
Pompey is a perfect example of that process. ❤️
