The fast North American import Captain Ahab (2, 1:50.8, who is standing his first Victorian season at Golden Plains Equine near Ballarat, belongs to a family that has left the winners of more than $4.1 million in the first two removes.
A son of champion sire Captaintreacherous, Captain Ahab is out of the grand Western Ideal mare Acquavella, who has left nine foals of racing age for eight winners, with eight in 2:00, seven in 1:55, one in 1:50 and four $100,000 earners.
They have earned $1,488,615 in stakes between them including the International Stallion Stakes winner Combustion 1:49.2 ($650,790) and the Reynolds Memorial winner Heart Of Mine 1:53.4 ($350,565).
A daughter of Acquavella in Fine Art figures as the dam of three sub 1:55 performers who have netted $324,976 including Cultured 1:51 ($204,650).
The grand-dam, the Artsplace mare The Art Museum, left seven winners with six in 1:55 and two in 1:50 and they earned a total of a whopping $2,296,464.
Undoubtedly, the best of The Art Museum’s progeny is the USA and Canadian 2YO C**t of the Year Artspeak 1:47.8 ($1,625,869), the winner of 14 of his 27 starts including the Metro Pace, Governor’s Cup and Tattersall’s Pace. He is now a 1:50 sire.
