Apollo’s owner contacted Cutting Edge Veterinary Surgery after he sustained a significant fracture to his humerus. He was initially stabilised at a local emergency centre, and his owner chose to have his surgery performed closer to home.

Apollo had suffered a transverse mid-humeral fracture, suspected to have been caused by a horse kick. This type of injury requires careful surgical planning and experienced handling. Dr Aiden performed the procedure, placing a lateral bone plate to stabilise the fracture following precise reduction.

Importantly, Apollo’s radial nerve was identified and carefully preserved during surgery. The fracture was located only millimetres from the nerve, so we were very pleased to find it remained intact.

With careful rest and rehabilitation we expect Apollo to make a full recovery!

Meet Lucky who unfortunately wasn’t so lucky! He injured his wrist back in January. Dr Aiden to the rescue!! This is his 6 week follow up post op x-ray from his carpal arthrodesis showing great healing and bone fusion. We wish Lucky all the best in his recovery. 🙌

Record breaking day for Cutting Edge Veterinary Surgery. 🥇

Our largest TPLO patient to date. 🏋🏽‍♀️ Sadie the Great Dane weighing in at 72 kilos required a 33mm radial cut of her proximal tibia, 10.5mm rotation and a jumbo ten hole 3.5mm plate applied to her medial tibia. Post operative radiographs look great! She is expected to make a speedy recovery. ❤️‍🩹

Dr Aiden has been very busy with lots of complex cases. One case in particular, please meet Archie 🐩 Archie is a two year old Poodle who was suspected of being kicked by his owners horse 🐴 He suffered a comminuted fracture of his right distal femur 🦴

Dr Aiden successfully repaired the fracture by utilising the latest techniques and equipment. Dr Aiden placed a 2mm 8 hole stainless steel locking compression plate in the proximal and distal fragments of the femur after fracture reduction.

With time we expect Archie to make a full recovery ❤️‍🩹 once the fracture heals over 6 to 8 weeks 🗓️

Poor Bonnie the Border Collie presented at her local vet clinic suffering from a nasty fracture. Her local Veterinarian called on Dr Aiden to repair the fracture. 🏥
After attaching a specially designed plate for this particular type of fracture together with medical grade stainless steel locking technology screws, Dr Aiden was able to successfully repair Bonnie’s leg. 🦵 🐕
Bonnie I’m sure will be forever grateful for the amazing work of Dr Aiden! 🌟

We like to keep our followers updated on the progress of our beloved furry friends and we are pleased to share with you Sadie’s success story. Dr Aiden took follow up radiographs on Tuesday which shows that Sadie’s bone is now fully healed. Sadie has made a full recovery and she has now found her forever home. We are so happy for Sadie!! 👏 🐶🙌

Dr Aiden’s case of the week 🌟🌟🌟
Muscles the Pomeranian broke his radius and ulnar two weeks ago in Townsville. He was taken to the local vet clinic who attempted to repair the fracture by casting the leg. Unfortunately two weeks later the bones were still malaligned and therefore required surgery to realign the bones. The surgery involved plating the bones to provide internal ridged fixation.
Dr Aiden to the rescue again and he expects Muscles to make a full recovery. 🙌😷 🐕

Today Dr Aiden performed a double Pelvic Osteotomy on a 10 month old Golden Retriever 🐕 He was displaying mild to moderate symptoms of lameness after short periods of exercise and it was found radiographically that he had moderate hip-laxity present.
The treatment for this condition is either a double Pelvic Osteotomy, or a hip replacement when he’s older. Due to his young age a double Pelvic Osteotomy is the most effective procedure in reducing long term discomfort to his hip joint and greatly reduces the chance for a total hip replacement later in life.
