Lovely mare coming back into work from kissing spine surgery, who also lives in a wetter environment.
She has also had a lamininitc event more than twelve months ago.
Went with quarter clipped three quarter fullered fronts, so I can keep the toe gathered up.
And a rolled toe to ease movement off the front of the hoof as limited traction is required. It also allows me to shift ground surface area caudal whilst still fitting the toe for support of the bone column on distorted laminae.
11 1/2 X 1 X 3/8 barstock with defined lateral breakover.

Arabian endurance horse coming back into work.
He is known to forge when he is unfit, so went with a purposeful shoeing package.
Concave up front and half diamond toe three quarter fullered behind.
Forging is where the medial toe behind clips the inner web of the front shoe during flight. It makes a clicking noise.
It is not overreaching. That happens at the heel of the shoe. Doesn't usually make any noise either.

Back to work refreshed.
It's turned really dry in the two weeks I have been over in Canada competing and having a short break with my Queen.
A natural transformation occurs when the solear sling becomes more caliced from said dry.
The arch returns and the palmer/plantar angles become naturally more positive.
Neutral in the wet is normal for some horses.
The hoof is a marvellous thing, adapting to the environment the horse lives in.

Also have a new veterinary collaboration that has been simmering in the background.
Positive times coming for your horses.

Really looking forward to seeing my client base and potential new customers in the near future.

A few pics of my recent competition in Calgary, Canada at Spruce Meadows.
It's the toughest individual competition I have been lucky enough to be a part of.
The months of lead up practice in the forge, the fitness on the treadmill and the cost of the materials needed are all worth it.
I'm very lucky to have supportive family and clients who understand my passion for my trade.
And the friendship of like-minded competitors who freely run my fire and strike for me, make it more special.
I am forever grateful for the opportunity 🙏

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes.
First round tomorrow at the world championship competition in Spruce Meadows, Calgary Canada at 9 am.

I had a lot of questions after I shared this video.
Mainly about what would stop my handle from becoming loose .
This is concentrated linseed oil. I turned it up and rubbed the oil all over and hung it outside on my portable vice.
It catches all the dust and pollen in the air this time of year at my shop.
That traction on my hand stops the hammer from slipping from my grasp when I have a sweaty palm.
And that is a Saunders hammer with the original handle ✌️💪
If the wood is drying out from lack of moisture in everyday tools, place your hammer in the same sort of vice and run super glue into the gap on the top.
It won't last for ever, but we all like an extra saver 👌

I have a couple of full days shoeing before I head off to Canada for the World Championship Blacksmiths Competition at Spruce Meadows, Calgary.
September 8-13 .
I forged my last practice shoe in The Frillneck Forge as I have to pack up my tools to take with.
Really looking forward to catching up with my fireman as well.
I want to thank my wonderful clients for allowing me the opportunity to go and compete.🙏
