Black dogs are often the last to find homes here at Oaklands... and we just don't understand why. 🖤

Black dogs are every bit as loving, loyal and beautiful as any other dog. In fact, they have so many amazing qualities:

🖤 Timeless, elegant coats that always look stunning.
🖤 Their fur often hides dirt better than lighter colours.
🖤 They have the sweetest, most soulful eyes that shine with love.
🖤 They're just as playful, intelligent and affectionate as any other dog.
🖤 They make incredible family companions and devoted best friends.
🖤 They're loyal through every stage of life, from puppy zoomies to quiet cuddles.
🖤 They photograph beautifully in natural light (and look extra adorable with a colourful bandana!).
🖤 Most importantly, they have so much love to give and are simply waiting for someone to see them.

A dog's colour doesn't determine their personality their heart does. Somewhere in our black dogs is a best friend, adventure buddy and loyal companion just waiting for the chance to be chosen.

Don't overlook the black dog they just might be the one who changes your life

Our rainbow litter is 3 weeks and what a fun age it is.

We start to toilet train, wean and even expose them to crate training in this week & it's a whole heap of fun.

Our puppy parents get access to all the behind the scenes action which is always the highlight of their day.

Reach out to find out more.

Tiny little milestones happening this week

Today the babies experienced the warmth of the sunshine outside for the very first time. Their eyes are beginning to loosen, tiny lashes are starting to appear, and those little ears are slowly beginning to open to the world around them

It’s such a magical stage watching them wake up more and more each day. From sleepy newborn snuggles to discovering light, warmth and sounds for the very first time

Every little change feels so special

Today we had our youngest in the Oakland's Oaklands Oodles team provide puppy cuddles and kisses for our rainbow litter....

Today we had our youngest in the Oakland's Oaklands Oodles team provide puppy cuddles and kisses for our rainbow litter.

I'm not sure if I burst an o***y but it was extremely cute!

It's also incredibly important to ensure the puppies are always handled with love and care and the right energy and most importantly if the puppy doesn't want to be held they are out down appropriately.

Little Onyx update 🖤

She’s currently around half the size of the rest of the litter and is still requiring feeds every 2–3 hours, but she is making small gains each day and is now officially over her birth weight.

Whilst she is still incredibly delicate, we are doing absolutely everything we can to help her reach the next big milestone — opening her eyes and ears — where our veterinary team will then be able to assist us with a more detailed plan moving forward.

If we are lucky enough to get her there, Onyx is going to need a very special home. At this stage though, we will not be taking any placement enquiries for her unless she reaches the point where she’s running around, barking at us, and thriving like a puppy should.

For now, we are just taking things one feed, one cuddle, and one tiny weight gain at a time. Fingers crossed for our little girl 🖤

One little thing we’ve started doing with our Rainbow litter is placing a couple of random items just outside the whelping box each day and letting Stormi decide what she’d like to do with them.

Today was the first day she chose to bring something in to her babies herself… a little monster toy 🥹

As you can see, she carefully placed it right beside the puppy pile and then positioned herself to feed them, which is exactly what we hope for. It creates a calm, neutral and positive experience around something new. The puppies will start to smell different materials, textures and scents long before they’re old enough to properly interact with them.

From here, we’ll keep adding different items daily now that Stormi has given us her tick of approval. It might be a soccer ball one day, a cardboard box the next, an empty dog food bag, plastics, rubbers, soft fabrics, crinkly textures and all sorts of safe everyday objects.

These tiny little exposures may not seem like much, but they play such a big role in helping build confident, adaptable puppies. Early exposure to different smells, sounds, textures and sights helps puppies learn that new things aren’t scary. It supports resilience, curiosity and recovery from surprise, which can make transitions into family homes much smoother later on.

It also helps reduce sensitivity to normal household items and experiences as they grow. Puppies who’ve gently experienced variety early in life are often more confident exploring new environments, meeting people and handling day to day life changes.

And the best part is that it’s all done naturally and at Stormi’s pace. We always let mum lead the way 💛🌈
