The Cat Shelter at SADS

The Cat Shelter at SADS The Cat Shelter at Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is part of a community-based animal welfare organisation.

This page features our very special ‘unconditional love’ cats. They may be harder to rehome because of temperament or age, and they’re seeking very special owners who would welcome them because they want to save a life. If you love cats and would like to give one a new chance in your home, please meet your future little friend here.

Possum, aged 4, has a very lively personality and lots of energy, not to mention she’s a right chatter box! Her favourite place is in the fresh air in our outdoor cat run. Other things she loves are a pat and a head scratch, but she’s definitely not a fan of other cats and will need to be the only feline in the household. She would prefer her family to be around most of the time as she does thrive with company and will chatter away to you. She will need to be an indoor cat with a secure, spacious outdoor cat run .

Susannah is a very sweet 2-year old cat, but currently lacks the confidence to seek affection. She arrived at the SADS cattery extremely scared and it was obvious she did not have much interaction with people. She was found with three juvenile kittens and a male friend*. Susannah has come a long way from those days and enjoys comfy beds, gentle pats and Greenies dental treats but still requires an adopter experienced in building confidence with timid cats. Unfortunately her FIV test was positive which almost certainly means she acquired the virus from other cats rather than testing positive due to being vaccinated against FIV. Experience has taught us that she will probably live to a fair or normal age with minimal or no medication but she will need to be an inside cat and co-habit only with other FIV+ cats or those that have been vaccinated. In the shelter situation Susannah does not like living in close proximity with other felines but with more space and a normal home she could possibly become friendly with other cats. With time we think she’d reward your patience and love, and given her situation when found* could even learn to socialise with other animals.

Calico cats often have very striking markings, and our 3-year-old Charley is no exception. She’s a sweet independent lady who is gentle-natured, enjoys head scratches and likes a quiet life. If you have a secure cat run for the daytime Charley would enjoy that, but otherwise she loves her indoor comforts. Her ideal home would be with a female adopter, or a small household without children. She appears to be wary of men, and doesn’t like loud noises. Charley gets on well with other easy-going cats at our shelter, and she’s also lived with a small dog. So if you had a quiet pet such as a small dog or a friendly male cat, Charley could fit right in with them.

Watson and Pilot were fostered together for a while, but they’re back at our shelter and would love a kind, gentle home together. Watson is white, female and 4 years old; Pilot is black, male and 2 years old. They are both very timid, but their foster carer found that they both like affection, even though they tend to be too afraid to seek it out. So if you are an adult-only household and are prepared to invest time and patience in these two darlings, we think you would be rewarded. We would much prefer they are adopted together, as they both need the support of a friendly cat and are already bonded.

Willma, aged 2, arrived at the shelter about a year ago, heavily pregnant with kittens who were adopted quite quickly. But she is still here, she loves running around our cat room, and we know she’d love a home with space to play with string toys and her humans. If you gave her a little cat tunnel where she can run and hide, she would adore that. Willma is athletic, independent and likes attention on her terms. She can be temperamental, so needs an experienced adopter who can read her and realise when she’s had enough attention. Willma would like to be the only feline in her home, and does not want to live with children.

Michelle is eight years old, and a sweet, timid lady who has been with us for about a year. She’s been waiting patiently, and we think it’s high time she found her forever home. Michelle values her independence, enjoys gentle attention, and will need someone experienced with timid cats to help her settle into her new home. It will need to be quiet, with no young children. Michelle has previously lived as a single cat and would not be happy living with other cats or dogs.

Our short-haired ginger and white boy Noel can be rather timid at first, can frighten easily and relies on his fellow felines for support. He’s only three years old, but he’s now been at the shelter for going on two years, so we would dearly love to find him a steady, reliable home where he can learn to connect with his humans. He would need an experienced adopter who will give him the time and patience he needs to flourish and gain confidence. While Noel is good with other cats and kittens after he’s had time to warm up to them, we feel he’d do best as a single cat in a quieter, adult-only home. He responds well to treats and will slowly start to show his affectionate side once he feels safe and settled.

Tater is a very sweet, affectionate girl who happily comes up to our staff and volunteers for a headbutt and lots of pats. She’s 15 years old and was surrendered through no fault of her own. Tater has renal failure and hyperthyroidism which means she will require her special vet prescription renal diet and medication administered twice daily. This is currently working well for her – she is still active, alert and curious, and loves being in the presence of her special people in the cattery. So we are looking for her sunset home with a kind-hearted foster carer who is experienced in giving medication and who will love sharing affection with this sweetheart. We would like to give her the best of homes, for as long or short as her lovely life may be, where she can settle down with minimal stress. Tater needs a peaceful home with no other pets. You will need to transport Tater to any vet appointments, if/when she requires veterinary attention. Save-A-Dog Scheme is happy to discuss providing Tater’s renal food, as it is expensive.
