SOMEONE’S BEEN BUSY LAYING EGGS THIS MORNING! 🥚

Well, this was certainly one way to start our Saturday morning! 😂 I woke up to Keenan yelling my name from the reptile room, and when I went to investigate what all the excitement was about, it turned out our very THICCCCC girl Isla had officially started laying her very first clutch of eggs! 🥹🤍

Isla is our beautiful Pure Albino Darwin Carpet Python, who was paired with our male Milo earlier this breeding season. This is her very first breeding season, so naturally, we’ve been eagerly watching her progress and waiting for this moment!

By the time Keenan discovered her, she’d already laid a few eggs. I couldn’t help myself and decided to sit beside her nesting box, with the lid slightly open, in the hopes that I’d get to witness her lay another. And much to my excitement, SHE DID! 🥹

Now, unfortunately, the egg I managed to watch her deliver was a slug (an infertile egg), but that certainly didn’t take away from how incredible it was to witness the process firsthand. There’s something genuinely fascinating about watching an animal go through a completely natural biological process that you’ve spent months preparing for, particularly when it’s her very first time. And while we’d obviously love to see a beautiful clutch of fertile eggs, our girl’s health and wellbeing will always come first 🤍

It’s also important to remember that not every egg laid during a breeding season will necessarily be fertile. Slugs can occur alongside fertile eggs, and one infertile egg doesn’t automatically mean the entire clutch will be unsuccessful.

For now, we’re giving Isla the peace, privacy and time she needs to finish laying. We’re incredibly excited to see how many eggs she produces altogether, and of course, how many turn out to be viable!

Hopefully, this is the beginning of some beautiful little Albino Darwin babies here at CQTR! 🥹🐍

FEAR SHOULD NOT BE A DEATH SENTENCE 🐍💔

Every single day, snakes lose their lives for doing nothing more than existing in a world they belong to just as much as we do.

And this desperately needs to change.

At CQTR, we will never tell you that you HAVE to love snakes, hold one or even feel comfortable around one. Fear is a very real human response, often reinforced by generations of misinformation, frightening experiences and the way snakes are portrayed in society.

But being afraid of an animal does not make that animal deserving of death 🪏🔫🪓

Snakes are not malicious creatures plotting their next attack. They don’t seek revenge, hold grudges or hunt humans for sport. They are animals driven by instinct, survival and the need to protect themselves.

What we often interpret as aggression is actually defence. A snake that strikes, hisses, flattens its body or attempts to flee is communicating that it feels threatened. It isn’t being evil. It’s trying to survive.

Snakes also play an incredibly important role in our ecosystems, regulating prey populations and contributing to the natural balance of their environments.

You do not have to love an animal to recognise its importance.

Here in Australia, native snakes are protected by wildlife legislation. Unlawfully killing them is an offence, and attempting to harm or handle one can put YOU at serious risk.

You can be frightened and still choose compassion. You can be uncomfortable and still walk away. You can dislike snakes and still respect their right to exist.

Conservation isn’t just about protecting animals we find beautiful or easy to love. It’s about protecting those we’ve been taught to fear too.

The next time you encounter a snake, remember that while you might be frightened of it, there’s a good chance it’s frightened of you too.

Neither of you needs to die because of that encounter.

Your fear is valid. Killing them for it isn’t 🤍

🚨 PSA: BEGINNERS AREN’T BAD KEEPERS. THEY’RE DROWNING IN BADLY EXPLAINED ADVICE‼️

Ask five keepers the same question and somehow you’ll walk away with five different answers 😂

This post isn’t about telling you there’s one “correct” way to keep a snake. It’s about learning the fundamentals, understanding WHY they matter, and then learning the individual animal in front of you.

If you’re new to the hobby, keep asking questions. Cross check your information. Find experienced keepers you like and trust, and don’t panic if your snake doesn’t behave exactly like someone else’s.

Learn the fundamentals. Then learn YOUR snake 💚

And to the experienced keepers out there… let’s teach beginners the WHY, not just give them another rule to memorise facepalm 🤦🏽‍♀️

⚠️ I truly am grateful to the people who helped guide me into the snake side of this hobby, but if theres one thing I’ve learnt, don’t put all your eggs in ONE basket. Ask around, and compare info! 🤍

🤎 Nala — Caramel Jag, 100% proven het Albino
Paired with our Albino Mixed Blood Bredli.

💛 Amarni — Diamond Sunglow
Paired with Winston, our Sunglow het Axanthic.

🤍 Freya — Albino Mixed Blood Bredli
Paired with Emmet, our Albino Mixed Blood Bredli.

💛 Daisy — Diamond Sunglow
Paired with Winnie the Pooh, he’s 50% Diamond / 50% Darwin.

🖤 Memphis — Jungle Jag
Paired with Maui, our Pure Diamond.

And then there’s Medusa, our Jungle Jag, who isn’t pictured. She has also been paired with Maui, but unfortunately she doesn’t appear to have developed any follicles just yet.

We’re not counting her out though, there’s still time for her to decide she’d like to join the party 😂🤞🏽

Now we wait, watch and hope these gorgeous girls give us a very exciting season. There are some pairings here that I am VERY keen to see the results of! 🥹🐍🤍

Loki by name, Loki by nature 💩

Imagine naming your snake after the God of Mischief and then being surprised when he chooses ✨chaos✨ every single day.

Fresh water?
Not anymore.
Clean enclosure?
Give him five minutes.
Mum’s last nerve?
His favourite enrichment 😌

And the worst part? He has absolutely zero remorse. Just sits there looking pretty and green like he didn’t personally create another job for me.

Prime defensive stance. Head up. Body ready. Absolutely convinced I’ve entered his enclosure with malicious intent. 😂

Meanwhile, I’m just trying to exist in the reptile room.

Jungles really do have a special talent for looking like they’re about to absolutely ruin your day… even when they’re all bluff and attitude 😂
