A new study shows that joining a local food co-op like Box Divvy can help people eat healthier and feel more confident about putting good food on the table.

The study was done by Western Sydney University and the University of Wollongong. It looked at how our friends at Box Divvy support families across Sydney.

Here’s what they found after talking to over 2,000 members:

- People were less likely to skip meals or buy less healthy food
- Fruit and vegetable intake went up, especially for people who were doing it tough
- On average, members ate 2.5 more serves of fruit and 3.3 more serves of vegetables each week
- The biggest improvements were seen in young adults, single parents, and families with lower incomes.

These small changes can help people move closer to a healthier diet - and lower their risk of long-term health problems like type 2 diabetes.

A tray of strawberries at Box Divvy yields 2.25kg of fresh strawberries for $18. The weather is warming up and smoothies in this house are a plenty so we'll freeze them.

Coles and Woolworths both have frozen berries at $6.50 for 500g.

To convert it to 2 kilos, you're paying $26 at Colesworth....we'll give them the 0.25kg
...and 𝙬𝙚'𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙖 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙚 $8 𝙙𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧.

Just saying. 🍓😍

Market Update
In fruit, it’s all about citrus this week – from Cara Cara and mandarins to Tangelos. Oh, and blueberries! Whilst we’re waiting for the strawberry prices to crash – will they ever?? – blueberries have been quietly come down in price.
Cosmic Crisp apples are here to stay. Along with the rest of the apples and pears, they underpin fruit this week.

Vegetables remain a mixed bag for value and pricey: avocadoes are moving up a bit but are still less than half the supermarket price. Snowpeas and broccolini on the other hand are starting to move in the right direction – very timely whilst beans, corn and broccoli remain dear.
Eggplant has also tightened, and leafy greens supply remains sluggish. However, tomatoes are moving down – and pretty well everything else – from capsicum to leek and from pumpkin to potatoes – is good value.

This week’s star however is the humble cauliflower: as we expect to sell several thousand at this price, we will need to source these from several farms in the Hawkesbury – from Freemans Reach to Agnes Banks. Luckily, it’s full moon as we write this…

It’s not just regular cauliflowers that have seen their growth propelled by the full moon: Romanesco cauliflowers have all of a sudden grown to a decent size. Steve says he’ll probably have 600 ready to pick this week.
