🐾 A little reminder from Prim! 🐾

Please remember to put your fur baby’s medication requests through at least 24–48 hours in advance — and even earlier where possible! 🐶🐱💗

Our vets work hard to review requests as quickly as possible, but with busy appointment schedules and unexpected emergencies, medications may not always be ready straight away. 🩺

We know it’s stressful when your pet is running low, so please plan ahead and give our team as much notice as possible. ☺️

📞 For prescription requests or medication questions, call 9921 1797 or pop into the clinic.

Thank you for helping us keep your fur babies happy, healthy and medicated! 🐾💗

🐾MEET THE TEAM — SHANA! 🐾

Say hello to our lovely Vet Nurse & Receptionist, Shana!✨

Shana graduated as a Veterinary Nurse in 2019 and joined the Sanford Vet family in 2020. 🩺🐾

One of Shana’s favourite parts of working in veterinary medicine is being able to advocate for our patients and be their voice when they can’t speak for themselves ❤️

Shana loves caring for all creatures great and small, but wildlife holds an extra special place in her heart. 🦘🦜

At home, Shana has quite the furry & feathered family:
🐱 Chia, Manu & Tarni — her three cats
🐶 Sophie — her Chihuahua X
🦜 Mambo — her Eclectus parrot

We’re so lucky to have Shana’s friendly face both behind the reception desk and caring for our patients out the back! 💕🐾

🐾 BRACHYCEPHALIC BREEDS & ANAESTHESIA

Have you ever wondered why your squishy-faced pooch may need a little extra care when undergoing an anaesthetic?❤️

“Brachy” = short nose
Brachycephalic breeds include French & English Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, Boxers and other short-nosed breeds.

Why do they need extra care?
Due to the structure of their airways, brachycephalic dogs can be more prone to breathing difficulties. These issues can become more noticeable during stress, hot weather and anaesthesia, which is why we take some additional precautions when they visit us for a procedure.

🩺 Before their procedure
We recommend a pre-visit consultation with one of our vets so we can assess your pet and create the safest treatment plan for their individual needs. Your vet may also prescribe medication to give before their visit to help reduce anxiety and keep stress levels to a minimum. 💊

💨 Extra oxygen support
Brachycephalic patients are pre-oxygenated before their anaesthetic, helping maximise their oxygen levels before they are anaesthetised. Oxygen support may also continue during their recovery if required.

👀 Extra monitoring
Our team closely monitors their breathing, temperature and gastrointestinal system throughout their procedure and recovery. Brachycephalic dogs can have more difficulty regulating their temperature and may also have an increased risk of regurgitation or vomiting around anaesthesia.

⏰ A little more recovery time
We tend to allow our brachycephalic patients a longer, closely supervised recovery period. This gives us plenty of time to make sure they are breathing comfortably, recovering well and returning to their normal selves before heading home. 🐾

We see plenty of gorgeous squishy-faced pooches here at the clinic, and we absolutely love having them visit! 🥰 Our team is trained in caring for brachycephalic patients and is dedicated to keeping your fur babies as safe, comfortable, happy and healthy as possible. ❤️

Have questions about your brachycephalic pet or an upcoming procedure?
📞 Give our friendly team a call on 9921 1797 or pop into the clinic for a chat!

If you’ve adopted a dog through Geraldton Dog Rescue you know how much love, time and dedication goes into these doggos.
Thanks for all that you do GDR ❤️

How much are your dogs??? We get asked if we have “free” dogs and pups. Just like we don’t sell dogs, we don’t give dogs away either.

We “rescue & rehome” dogs. The fee you pay is called an “adoption fee” which usually covers: sterilisation or voucher, 1st C3 vaccination, Microchip, Vet check, Bath, Flea & Worm treatment. We don’t charge for the time & energy our “volunteers” give to rescue and rehome dogs from the City of Greater Geraldton pound.

Our adoption fee is $500. Our fee is already subsidised and no further discounts are given.

Geraldton Dog Rescue is generously supported by Sanford Veterinary Clinic who subsidise the costs of their vets & nurses attending to our rescue dogs. Thank you Sanford Vet Clinic. We appreciate the discounts, the expertise and support that you extend to our organisation.

When you’re considering adopting a dog or pup, you should also factor in feeding, grooming, ongoing veterinary costs and even boarding kennels if/when you take holidays. Some dog owners have insurance cover for their pets and others have a “Pet’s Savings Account”, so when unexpected expenses pop up they’ve been taken care of.

Thank you always for your support. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

When she’s not caring for patients at the clinic, Krystal has two gorgeous cats of her own — Pandora & Toulouse 🐱🐱

We’re very lucky to have Krystal as part of our team! 💕🐾
