If you’ve visited the clinic over the past two years, chances are you’ve been greeted by Dr Sophie. Her bubbly personality, infectious smile, and kindness and compassion for every patient and client have made her a much-loved part of the South Valley Vet Clinic family.

As many of our clients know, Sophie has recently begun her maternity leave. While we certainly miss having her around the clinic, we are so excited for her as she steps into this beautiful new chapter.

In the meantime, we’re very pleased to introduce her partner, Dr Paddy, to the South Valley Vet Clinic family. Paddy has settled in seamlessly and quickly become a familiar face around the clinic. He brings a friendly, easy-going energy along with a genuine care for both people and animals, making him a wonderful fit for our team. We're certain you’ll all love getting to know him over the coming months.

Check out this before and after.... Can you count how many teeth had to be removed?

Those cute little baby teeth (deciduous teeth) don’t always fall out like they’re meant to.
When they hang around too long, they can trap food, crowd adult teeth, and create the perfect setup for dental disease early in life.

🚩 A common sign:
Adult teeth coming through while the baby tooth is still sitting there.....hello “double teeth”

💡 Why removal matters:
Leaving retained baby teeth can lead to pain, infection, and lifelong dental issues. Removing them early helps guide adult teeth into the right position and keeps your pet’s mouth healthy.

✨ Quick, routine, and often done at the same time as desexing or other procedures.

If your pet has a mouth full of “extras”, it’s time for a dental check!

These tiny seeds can easily burrow into paws, ears and skin, and may also lodge in the eyes or nose, causing irritation and painful infections.

Common signs to watch for:
• Excessive paw licking or chewing
• Sudden limping or favouring a leg
• Head shaking or ear scratching
• Squinting, redness, or eye discharge
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Swelling, redness, or a small lump on the skin

A quick check after every walk can make all the difference.

If something doesn’t seem right, don’t wait to get it checked.
