! URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED !

Hello to all my wonderful followers, I’m putting this post out attempting to gain attention from ALL FEEDERS OF FIBRE FRESH PRODUCTS, this includes FIBRE PROTECT, FIBRE EZE, and FIBRE MIX

There has been an URGENT bio security threat to this feed, which means if this feed has been recently purchased by you, please don’t feed it and follow instructions that I have posted below!

I hope that everyone and all horses are safe and no one has been made unwell from this bio security threat so far.

Stay safe everyone and have a beautiful week !

Mr W***y 🐎

W***y isn’t a stranger to anyone, one of the most loved horses I believe I ever had the pleasure of working with. Everyone knows him and everyone loves him! So I thought I would share apart of his journey with you today.

When W***y came to us he’s you classic, OTT. Lean, riddled in ulcers, not a lot of muscle, and my gosh difficult to put weight onto.

After multiple ulcer treatments and a supportive diet - he came along, slowly but surely.

A thoroughbreds metabolism is believe it or not, only similar to one of a quarter horse, but different to other breeds.
With the intention of putting weight on a thoroughbred it is important to take into consideration their metabolic type and feed according to how their body processes nutrients.
A post discussing a throughbreds metabolism would go on for days, so a seperate post I will make for that.
But in short - it is crucial to keep a tb’s tummy full for as longgggg as possible.

This is what we did with Mr W***y with 3 hard feeds a day, 2 lucern biscuits a day and constant access to a round bale.
It is important when you split your feeds into three that you don’t feed the same quantity each feed as you would if you were just feeding him in the morning.

It was important for us to weigh his food and create three feeds that evenly distributed the amount he required daily. When doing this it is important to take information on current weight, height, age, breed (metabolism type), and workload.

The results speak for themselves. These photos were taken 8 weeks apart.
We are so stoaked with how W***y came along !

Kiara is doing such an incredible job with him and we are so beyond proud of everything they have achieved.

Chelsea and Cleo 🐴💕

Cleo came to us about 8 months ago and our project aimed at providing Cleo with the nutrients she would need in order to put on and sustain the muscle she would need for her new work load.

In doing this we introduced high protein feeds to contribute to muscle growth and development, and we also added in oils to provide cool energy, to support exercise performance, add a little bit of weight to her, and promote gut health.

Cleo is also a wind sucker, so it was important that her tummy remains as healthy as it can for a horse with this problem. So we put her on some digestive supplements mid way through our project that really helped with her behaviour, mood, and performence !

We are so stoaked with the muscle cleo has developed in such a short amount of time, not to mention her coat is looking immaculate!

What we can see in these photos is a significant amount of muscle put on around her rump area, and her shoulders especially.
Her gut also came along with it ! However her increased workload will prevent her from falling overweight too much. But it is something we monitor closely.
We can also see a significantly improved top line which was one of our main goals aswell. This was achieved through the combination of a supportive diet AND an exercise regime that targeted this goal directly.
We can also see big developments through her neck aswell.

Chelsea is doing such a brilliant job with this mare and we’re so happy to have been able to offer guidance to this new combination.

Hello everyone !

I apologise for being MIA the past couple of months.
I have recently moved to France and juggling the move, plus university, plus new work here, plus old work at home, something had to slip through the cracks.

However I am back and more ready than ever to continue helping the equine community with their nutrition needs.

With racing season underway we will have many ex race horses being rehomed soon, so I am hoping to reach people who may be new to their equine journey needing some assistance or anyone who is getting a new horse and needs a plan !

Our services suit a variety of situations so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
A further post with a list of services will be uploaded soon, along with some fun cases I’ve been chipping away at over the last couple months.

Can’t wait to show you guys! 🎉🐎🐴🎠

🦄 Buzz and Sienna 🦄

A short while ago we were approached by the lovely Melissa in regard to their warmblood Buzz 😍
Buzz is a big, beautiful, athletic éventer who tried his best to please in every stride he takes. Buzz has always been spoilt and absolutely wasn’t underweight when we started working with him, however Melissa was hoping to add some condition to his hips, top line, and neck région to help support his recently increased workload. She also wanted advice on feeds to encourage muscular development.

And we have done just that !
Buzz has changed shape completely and is thriving in his new skin. Buzz has put on an appropriate amount of weight whilst adding a lot of muscle around his top line and loin area.
Additionally his neck has filled out almost completely ! Which is very exciting and he is even now self carrying with ease.

We are so blessed to have been able to work with this gorgeous combination and are thrilled to see how far he came in such a short amount of time 🎉🦄

Lexi and Synchro 😍

This pair have been absolutely killing it this year !
As a new team, the Picketts came to us to start up a feed plan that tended to Synchs breeding, age, weight, height and work load.

As we can see in these photos, Synch is in good shape ! However they were struggling with top line building and overall muscle production, which was one of their main goals when coming to me.

After a long and careful analysis of their current diet, we provided suggestions that not only filled in the gaps from her current diet vitimin and mineral wise, but we also simplified her diet so she retains more of the food she’s given, for longer periods of time, that target those goal related areas.

I am so blessed to have been able to provide advice to such a quality and loving team!
I can’t wait for that 6 week check in 💪🦄 stay tuned !!

What is it that EquiHealth does exactly ?
This is the most comment question I have received recently, and understandably so, There are not a lot of services like this one around !

So I thought instead of writting a big post - I’ll just present a recent case.

Presenting Faith !
Faith had been struggling to put weight on for a long time. Her owner tried so many things and was completely devoted to Faiths health. As a thoroughbred and a windsucker, we had our work cut out for us !

Faiths owner came to us and we wrote up a personalised plan off evidence- based research into equine nutrition to best suit Faiths age, work load, breeding and background. This is the result in only 8 weeks! She had built a nice amount of muscle through her neck (difficult to see from the first photo), her coat was phenomenal and as we can see she had put on a nice amount of weight without it being too much on her cardiovascular system!

We are so over the moon to see her come so far in such a short amount of time - on primarily a plant based diet.
It was an absolute pleasure working with this awesome team 🦄💪

A very interesting and when thought about in hindsight.. a very logical arguement !
There have been multiple studies confirming that this mode of transport is more desired by our horses.
What to you think? Would you ever consider something like this ?

REVERSE LOAD OR REAR FACING FLOATS

People ask me why I travel all my horses facing the rear of the float or truck so I thought I would explain this in detail. Horses by nature, have a dislike for small or confined spaces. They are a live, breathing animal with emotions like fear and anxiety. When they feel threatened and scared, their instinct is to flee.

So now let’s picture your horse, standing in a float, looking forward, or in an angle load float, facing the driver’s side, watching the traffic come toward them. They are looking out the window at fast cars, B-Doubles, headlights, and emergency lights racing toward them at 100 kph. They have not evolved over 10,000 years looking at these things, and they don’t cope at all with them.

Sure, many may not show any anxiety, because again, over the last 10,000 years, the horses that did show anxiety, became a target for predators, and were eaten. So those that showed anxiety were eaten, the ones that were able to hide it, kept on breeding.

So here is your horse, facing forward, assessing every object coming toward them, deciding if it is a threat to them or not. To flee or not to flee – that is their question! But then, they realize, they CAN’T flee if they need to. They want to turn and run, to flee, but can’t. They are trapped. The hidden anxiety levels rise dramatically, and we now get walking around, weaving, pawing, scrambling, and other problems like sweating and stomach ulcers.

You get to your destination and open the front of the float to untie them, looking around for any injury during travel. You walk to the back of your float and let the tailgate down. You make another quick assessment to see if they have hurt themselves during travel. You then wait for the right time to open the rump bar, being very careful in case you get kicked or stood on, and wait to see if they will come rushing out and bowl you over, or back out quietly, or even the occasional one who refuses to come out at all. Many come rushing out, looking around doing a very quick assessment of their new environment, looking for the lion that could jump out from a hidden spot, to eat them.

Sure, there are no lions around to eat them in our modern world, but your horse did not get that email, remember it is their evolved state of mind. They feel like they finally escaped this 100 kph bullet that has been stopping them from turning around to run away from all these things that may have been attempting to kill them. Remember, this is how THEY feel, not what you know.

Now let’s put that same horse in a rear facing float that faces the passenger side. Your horse walks in and turns around to be tied up. This is not hard to teach. I have even taught my bigger horses to back up the tailgate into the float. You tie them up, close the tailgate and off you go. Your horse looks out the window on the passenger side and sees paddocks, green grass and trees, or if in suburbia, a front garden of a house, or a slow-moving truck that they are passing. They make a quick assessment of whether this object is a threat or not.

While doing this, they notice this object is leaving, or moving away. It is backing off and going away. It is no longer a threat. Your horse can relax. There is nothing coming straight toward your horse, nothing to threaten your horse. No assessments from your horse as to whether he will live or die. There is now no desire to turn and run. Your horse soon realizes that there are no more life-threatening situations to assess and he can relax.

Your horse can relax, lower their head (drainage) and watch the world go by, having a quiet nibble on a hay net. No desire to turn and run, no elevated heart rate, no scrambling, walking around, crib biting and the list goes on.

You arrive at your destination, lower the tail gate, and there is your horse looking at you and their new environment. Your horse is looking at you and watches you open the divider. You are at their head, not the dangerous kicking end. You untie them easily because they are definitely not going to pull back to go further into the float. You are at their head and can control any forward movement easily. They walk out quietly and calmly – no more rushing out backwards.
The end result – a happy relaxed horse and a safe relaxed handler. It’s the perfect start to your ride, event or competition.

Now some of you may ask, why not face them toward to middle of the road, because the float will tow better, due to the camber of the road. Having spent a lifetime in the heavy vehicle transport industry I certainly understand your question. Here again it is more important to think of the comfort of the horse, than tyre wear or towing characteristics.

Your float may (or may not) look like it is drifting a fraction to the passenger side. The more severe the camber of the road, the more it will look like it is drifting. The difference between the towing characteristics of facing your horse toward the middle of the road, or toward the passenger side is minimal, and most drivers will barely notice this difference.

But your horse will really notice the difference. Facing the driver’s side, your horse has vehicles swishing past their head, and they are standing slightly up hill, again depending on the camber of the road. Now think back to every time you see your horse resting in the paddock. They are standing down hill because they are most comfortable when 60% of their body weight is on their front legs, and 40% on their back legs. This is how your horse likes to stand in a relaxed state, so let’s replicate this in your float.

If after reading this you feel converted, but can’t find a rear facing float, don’t worry. There are many people who have experienced the benefits of rear facing floats, and more of these floats are becoming available as people upgrade. The racing industry are leading the change because it is safer, particularly around highly strung young horses.

Change from old thinking is always slow because people are scared of change. If you can afford a new float, be courageous and get a rear facing float built. If not, adapt the angle load float that you have. I promise you that you will never regret it.

It is difficult to know what fils you should be rugging your horses in and what rugs are more waterproof than others when that hectic rain comes through.

So how prepared are you for the cold blast coming through Victoria this week?

‘I feel like I was at the feed store just last week and spent the same amount as I’ve had to this week, horses are so expensive.’ - i know this feeling allll too well… and guess what, they don’t have to be !!
I had an OTT who struggled to hold weight, developed gastric ulcers, was extreamly prone to colic AND injury prone - I was spending a fortune !

Through months of research and work experience I found economically friendly avenues to feed my horses while still ensuring they’re getting everything they nutritionally require, plus more !!

If you are interested in finding economical avenues to feed your horses, send us a message we would love to offer our insight !
