🚨 RESCUE CALL… WITH A PLOT TWIST! 🦜🏠😂

I got called out to Lewiston after little Squish, a young lorikeet, decided to take himself on an adventure.

His very determined human managed to get herself up onto the roof to coax him down… and with a little encouragement, Squish finally decided to cooperate.

Success! 🎉

There was just one small problem…

Squish was safely down. His human was not. 😂

So somehow my bird rescue turned into a human roof rescue, with me helping her back down while holding the culprit responsible for the whole situation. 🦜🤣

Squish was safely popped into his cage, received some fresh bottlebrush as a reward for eventually making a good life choice 🌺😂 and, most importantly, was reunited with his very relieved mama. ❤️

Just another completely normal day in wildlife rescue.

Welcome home, Squish. Perhaps keep your next adventure at ground level. 😂🦜

A beautiful surprise today 💛

I went to pick up feed for the animals and discovered that a very kind person had phoned the feed store and put $100 towards our feed bill. 🥹🦆🐦💛

I honestly can’t tell you how much gestures like this mean. Every dollar goes directly towards feeding and caring for the animals that come through Elwood Sanctuary.

If anyone else would ever like to help, you can simply ring the feed store and put any amount towards our account. Even a few dollars makes a difference and it all adds up.

To the beautiful person who donated the $100 — thank you so, so much. You absolutely made my day and helped a whole lot of little mouths at the same time. ❤️

Ok South Australia, a little personal call out from us 💚💛🏀

This one is very close to my heart.

The Australian Boomerangs Basketball Team is heading to Thailand for the Asia World Cup, and we’re holding a Quiz Night on Saturday 10 October to help get them there.

It’s also something I feel strongly about more broadly. Creating genuine opportunities for people to participate, compete, achieve and represent their country on an international stage.

Right now, we need some help with prizes!

We’re looking for businesses, organisations and individuals who might be willing to donate:

🎁 Quiz night prizes
🎟️ Vouchers or experiences
🏆 Items for our silent auction
🛍️ Products, hampers, services or anything else that could help us raise funds on the night

Big or small, every donation will genuinely help. If you own a business, know someone who does, or have something you would be happy to contribute, please send me a message.

And if you can’t donate, simply sharing this post might put it in front of someone who can. ❤️

These guys have earned the chance to wear the green and gold. Now we just need to help get them to Thailand. 🇦🇺🏀✈️🇹🇭

Thank you. This one really does mean a lot to me. 💚💛

🐣 Two tiny new arrivals at Elwood Sanctuary 🕊️💛

Earlier today I was tagged in a Facebook post about two baby Spotted Doves who had been found and needed someone to care for them.

I contacted their finder, Sam, and before long she was at our door with these two little ones safely in hand. 💕

A huge thank you to Sam, not only for helping them and taking the time to make sure they ended up somewhere they could receive the care they need. She also asked if I could send her a video showing how we feed them, so I thought I’d share it here too. 🥰

The videos show how I prepare their bottle for feeding, including our very sophisticated balloon-and-rubber-band feeding setup 😂, how I mix their feed and what goes into it, and then the important bit…feeding the babies themselves.

Hand-raising little birds like these is a bit more involved than it might look. Getting the food, consistency, temperature and feeding technique right is important, particularly when they’re this young.

For now, these two are warm, fed, safe and settling in. 💛

Thank you again, Sam, for caring enough to step-up, ask for help and get them to us. These little lives get a second chance because people like you notice. 🕊️

Welcome to Elwood, little ones. 💛

At Elwood Sanctuary, we’re usually scrambling to make every dollar stretch as far as it can for the animals in our care. 🦆🦘🦜💛

But every now and then, something comes along that touches our hearts enough to make us stop and say, we want to support this too.

This is one of those things. 💛

We’ve purchased two Virtual Torches to support Special Olympics athletes and teams.

Because whether it’s people or animals, so much of what we believe in comes back to the same simple things like kindness, inclusion, compassion and making sure nobody gets left behind.

A Virtual Torch is just $25, but collectively they can make a huge difference.

So our little Sanctuary has two torches burning (no aviaries or bathrooms 😂)🔥🔥 and, if you’re in a position to, we’d love to encourage our community to light one too.

Sometimes there’s room in the heart for more than one cause. 💛

Monday was supposed to be: finish work, go home, undo the pants and flop on the lounge!

Instead, the Fauna Rescue hotline called about a single Pacific Black duckling, the lone survivor of its family. Singles can be really difficult. They need warmth, security and, most importantly, company.

There was no one else available, so off I went.

Before I’d even left with that one, another call. Another single.

Before I’d collected that one… a third. 😂

So I eventually headed home with two Pacific Blacks and one little Wood Duck stuffed down my jumper, because two were cold and in pretty poor shape.

Three completely separate rescues. Three little ducklings who started the night alone.

By bedtime, they had heat, full bellies… and each other. 💛🦆

Just another Monday at Elwood Sanctuary.

A different kind of rescue today ❤️

Mark was driving through Mawson Lakes today when he came across an accident involving a motorbike and a car.

Of course he stopped 😂

First helping the motorcyclist get himself and his bike safely off the road, then straight over to the car to check on the elderly lady who had been driving and make sure she was okay.

Mark does a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff at Elwood and helps me with plenty of our Fauna Rescue SA rescues, so I thought this was worth sharing.

Apparently it doesn’t matter whether you have feathers, fur or two legs… if you need rescuing, Mark will probably stop. ❤️😂

Hope both the rider and the lovely lady are doing okay tonight.

🦆 Ever wondered what’s involved in becoming a duckling carer?

I recently delivered this online Duckling Carer Information Session for Fauna Rescue SA, so I thought I’d share the session here for anyone who might be curious.

It’s simply an introduction to what duckling caring involves, the different stages of care, what you need to get started, the commitment involved and the support available.

There’s absolutely no commitment from watching. If you think it might be something you’d like to do, training and support follow from here and we can help you through the next steps.

And if ducklings aren’t quite your thing, Fauna Rescue SA has lots of other ways you can get involved and help our wildlife. 💚

Have a watch and see what you think! 🦆🐣
