Because everyone makes mistakes.

At the end of a long day, at the end of a long work week, I forgot to shut the coop, and woke up to a massacre.
Save my one mama hen and her odd bunch of chicks, everyone is gone.

My heart hurts and I feel like such a failure.
But.
We forgive ourselves.
We move forward.
And we make plans to start again, properly, so this never happens again.

Posting for the few people who live under a rock and don’t already know this.
Also posting because Miss 3 has started kindy which means I get to traipse around one day a week WITHOUT children which is so exciting.

Current goals:
- finish chicken coop
- kill weeds
- make farm less trash 🙏🏻

One of my favourite parts of the day.

The mums enjoy their dinner, and I get to spend a little one-on-one time with the babies. These quiet moments help them grow into calm, confident sheep that aren’t frightened of people.

And this sweet little ram at the end?

He’s making an exceptionally good case for remaining anatomically complete. 🤍😂

This is Sugar… and this is Sugar

From fluffy curls to a single strand of yarn

I’ve fallen headfirst into the wonderful rabbit hole of hand spinning, and there’s something a little bit magical about turning the fleece from a sheep you know and love into yarn with nothing more than a drop spindle and a bit of patience.

Hopefully, before too long, I’ll be able to carry a little piece of Sugar with me wherever I go.

Peak AuDHD behaviour? Probably.

But honestly… there are worse hobbies than making yarn from your favourite sheep.

More practice spinning pure Valais fleece into yarn using my drop spindle. Once I make another single I will ply them together into two-ply yarn before taking the next brave step to start dyeing.

This has all been a big, and time-stealing learning process but it’s been such a fun skill to pick up and I look forward to being able to have a finished product to play with!
