Did you know your dog’s nose is completely unique? 🐶👃

Just like our fingerprints, the pattern of ridges and bumps on your dog’s nose is unique to them. No two noses are exactly the same! So next time you’re giving your pup a boop, take a closer look. 🥰

One part of our clinic that we're incredibly grateful for is the little space we have at the back, where families can say goodbye to their beloved pets in peace, and where those pets can be relaxed, away from the clinical environment.

It's also a place our team escapes to from time to time to catch a little sunshine and recharge. What we do isn't easy, but we wouldn't change it for the world.

Recently, this little butcher bird stopped by and sang to us. It was a simple reminder of just how lucky we are to have this special little space. 💙

We asked our vets what they REALLY think about our nurses and techs… 👀😂

From the skills they admire most to the things they’re grateful for, our vets had plenty to say about the incredible people they work alongside every day. 🩺🐾

Happy Vet Nurse Day to our amazing nursing team. We appreciate you more than you know! 💕✨

07/10/2026

This Vet Nurse Week, we’re celebrating the theme “Everyday Heroes: Strength, Skill, and Heart in Action.” 🩺🐾

Because every day, our nurses bring strength when it’s needed, skill when it matters and so much heart to every patient, client and team member they care for. We are appreciating all our incredible nurses who give so much, every day. We’re so lucky to have you.💚💙

Keep an eye out for another special post later this week, where our vets share what makes our nurses so special. 👀

𝗪𝗲’𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀.

They’re about something we spend a lot of time thinking about here at Fernvale Vet Surgery:

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?

Last week we launched GapOnly, which is one part of that.

But there are plenty of other things we want our clients to know about too — from pet insurance and what to look for in a policy, to ways to save money on the everyday stuff and options that can help make sure you have access to money when something unexpected happens.

We’re also making some changes here at the clinic because we think they simply make sense for our patients and clients.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸: 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀.

If you’ve ever owned a dog with a recurring ear infection, you’ll probably want to read this one. 😅

After that, we’ll be talking about pet insurance, GapOnly, and the options available if pet insurance isn’t right for you.

We’re not here to tell you what you should do.

𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝘀𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀.

Keep an eye on your inbox over the next couple of weeks.

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀?

Send us an email at [email protected] and we’ll make sure you’re on the list so you don’t miss the next one.

😂🐱 Mo’s riding in style! Forget the ordinary cat carrier. Mo clearly has places to be and standards to uphold. Just casually cruising around in first class. 😎✈️

🕷️ A Ticky Little Surprise 🐾

Every morning, Hollie gets her very important chin rub and cuddle from Dad a life-saving chin rub, as it turns out! 🥰

That’s when Dad spotted a little tick hiding under her neck.
Luckily, Super Mum had her up to date with Bravecto, so Hollie came straight in for a check with Dr Ness. Thankfully, she was showing no signs of tick paralysis and got the all clear! 💙

A good reminder to keep up with your pet’s tick prevention and give them a quick check during those daily cuddles. 🐶🔍

🎉 Can you tell we're a little excited about this one?

Fernvale Vet Surgery now offers GapOnly®!

This is something we've wanted to be able to offer our clients for a long time, and there's a very simple reason why.

Having pet insurance is one thing. Having thousands of dollars available at short notice when your pet unexpectedly becomes sick or injured is another.

And unfortunately, the unexpected things are often the expensive things.

Surgery. Hospitalisation. Blood tests. X-rays. Further diagnostics to work out what's going on.

Even when your pet is insured, traditionally you may still need to pay the entire veterinary bill upfront and then wait to be reimbursed.

GapOnly® gives us another option.

If your pet is insured with a participating GapOnly® pet insurance partner and the claim is eligible, we can submit the claim while you're here. Once it's approved, you only pay the gap — the amount your insurance doesn't cover. Claims are generally assessed in around five minutes.

For a smaller bill, that might not make a huge difference.

But when something unexpected happens and you're suddenly facing a much bigger veterinary bill, not having to find the entire amount upfront can make a very real difference.

And that's exactly why we're so happy to finally have this available at Fernvale. 🧡

Not all pet insurance policies offer GapOnly®, so it does depend on who your pet is insured with and whether the claim is eligible.

But don't worry about trying to work it all out yourself — our nurses will ask about your pet insurance when you come in and can help check whether GapOnly may be available for your claim.

We're pretty excited about this one. We hope you are too!

Bright scrubs, important conversations. 🌈💙

Our team are huge supporters of the Trademutt brand and the message behind it, so we love having a little extra colour in our wardrobe while supporting such an important cause. 🤝❤️‍🩹

Four of our team recently completed a learning course with Zenrelia all about managing itch in dogs 🐶, and were lucky enough to receive some very colourful Trademutt shirts!

Trademutt was created to start conversations around mental health and su***de prevention and with “This is a conversation starter” on the back, what better time than Su***de Prevention Month to remind each other to check in, have a chat and ask “Are you okay?” 💛💜
