I’ve finally been back on the road in the last few days, hosting a very productive clinic for some special horses and riders at the Zone 15 Pony Club Camp at Capella!

I met some great, likeminded people and caught up with some familiar faces and of course, got my horse fix!!🤩

WELCOME to A BIT UNIQUE!!🦄
Please allow me to introduce myself, for those who don't know me that well. My name is Clare Figueiredo and I'm a BBA accredited bit fitter and EA dressage coach (BHSAI) with 40 yrs of experience in the horse industry.

I'm available to do individual or group bitfitting consultations (based in Eumundi, Queensland) and to travel around Queensland for bitfitting clinics of 2/3 days. I'm also keen to do educational seminars about bit fitting because there is so much to learn.

Each horse's mouth is as unique as a fingerprint and their pressure preferences also vary immensely. So you owe it to your horse to have his mouth professionally assessed and fitted with the bit/s that offer the most comfort for him and the best feeling for you!!🌸🌸🦄🦄

I currently have all the leading bit brands and models (Sprenger, NS, Fager, Bombers etc) available for trial and believe that it’s always the horse and rider’s choice that matters most.

I have a specialist interest in fitting bits for dressage, particularly double bridles but I’m equally happy fitting for showjumping, polocrosse or Pony Club.

Did you know.....The Tongue 👅 is the most sensitive part of your horse's mouth and the most prone to injury.

This very large muscle extends from its tip, which you can see, to the hyoid apparatus and its attachment to the ramus of the mandible at the back.

The tongue is vital for swallowing and influencing the hyoid apparatus

Like any other muscle, restriction or tension within it can induce a muscular chain reaction.

The sensitivity of the tongue is a crucial consideration when fitting a bit. An ill-fitting or harsh bit or excessive pressure on the bit from your hands can cause pain and discomfort. In some cases it can result in tension throughout the body and poor performance.

Firstly I have to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me in recent weeks. So many of you have shown up for me and continue to do so…I’m truly grateful!!🫶

But I do have to ask my SE Qld clients to please be patient with me as my return will be delayed due to numerous tasks that must be completed after a bereavement.

I hope to be able to make a limited number of trips in August but might not be back to normality, from a work perspective,until September.

Of course, I totally understand if you can’t wait that long and need to employ the services of another bitfitter…otherwise I look forward to catching up with you soon.🩵🦄💜

To my wonderful friends and clients of A Bit Unique I will be temporarily unavailable for at least the next few weeks.

Without going into too much detail my Mum is extremely ill and is unlikely to be with us much longer.

Please allow me to take these precious moments with her in the coming days/weeks without too many distractions and I’ll be back at it as soon as I can.

😚 This horse definitely doesn't need any lip filler! 😙
When you think that your horse's lips couldn't get any bigger... you don't usually see how large their lip flaps are!

🤔 Did you realise that a horse's lips extend this far into the mouth? This is called the lip flap.

Quite often this part of the lip cushions the bit in the mouth but is very prone to being damaged by the bit if it rubs or pinches/ nips.

You can see how the lower lip and tongue covers the bars and often takes away pressure off the bars.
