🐍 Common Tree Snake Rescue – Holsworthy 🐍

We were called to an industrial site at Holsworthy this week for a Common Tree Snake that had become stuck inside a steel beam and required assistance.

When we first arrived, we were concerned the snake may have entered the beam, eaten a frog or lizard, and then been unable to squeeze back out. However, after taking a closer look, we discovered the real issue was a burr on the inside edge of the hole. The rough metal was catching on the snake's scales as it tried to move, preventing it from freeing itself.

With a little olive oil, plenty of patience, and some careful manoeuvring, we were eventually able to work the snake free without causing any injury. After a quick health check, the snake was released into suitable nearby habitat.

It's amazing the situations wildlife can find themselves in, and we're always happy to lend a hand when needed.

🌿 Waterfall NSW 2233 – Snake Species Breakdown 🐍

Bordered by the Royal National Park and Heathcote National Park, Waterfall is one of the most bushland-surrounded suburbs in the Sutherland Shire. Despite having a population of only around 500 residents, it has one of the most diverse snake records in our dataset.

The most commonly reported species in Waterfall is the Diamond Python, accounting for 50% of all recorded sightings. Red-bellied Black Snakes make up a further 22%, while Eastern Brown Snakes, Eastern Tiger Snakes and Death Adders have all been recorded in the suburb.

One of the more interesting findings is the presence of Death Adders, a species typically associated with relatively undisturbed bushland habitats. Waterfall is also one of the few suburbs where every major venomous snake species found in the Sutherland Shire has been recorded.

🐍 Red-bellied Black Snake Removed from Bay Central, Woolooware 🐍

It seems even the snakes were keen to check out the new Bay Central Shopping Centre! This Red-bellied Black Snake somehow made its way up to the second floor of the car park, right next to Shark Park.

With ongoing construction, surrounding bushland, and warm weather, it's not uncommon to see snakes moving through the area in search of food, water, shelter, or a mate.

Fortunately, we were able to safely capture and relocate this curious visitor back to nearby bushland where it belongs.

Yellow-faced Whip Snake – Woronora Heights

We were called to Woronora Heights during the week for a Yellow-faced Whip Snake that had been seen in the same location for several days.

The resident had first noticed the snake disappear behind a retaining wall a few days earlier and continued to see it in the area. When we arrived, we quickly realised the snake was actually stuck and unable to free itself.

With the help of removing some of the concrete retaining wall panels, we were able to safely free the snake without injury.

The snake has now been released back into suitable bushland, making for a great outcome.

Diamond Python removal from Yarrawarrah yesterday afternoon.

We were called on our way home from my full-time job and on the way to football training for a stunning Diamond Python that had made itself comfortable on a roof.

It’s actually quite common to find Diamond Pythons in and on roofs during winter. Roof spaces provide warmth and shelter, making them an attractive spot for snakes during the cooler months.

The python was safely removed and relocated back into suitable habitat.

We were called to a Kurnell home after a large Red-bellied Black Snake slithered through an open back door and made its way straight into the kids' playroom.

We quickly attended and safely relocated the snake from the property. At over 1.6 metres long and weighing more than 1.25kg, it was one of the biggest Red-bellied Black Snakes we encountered that season.

It's a good reminder that snakes can enter homes through open doors and garages, particularly during warmer weather when they're active and searching for food, shelter, or mates.
