To my wonderful clients & friends,

House of Mikoda will be taking a short pause from 19 September to 16 November, while I undergo surgery and allow myself the time needed to recover fully.

If your cat is due for their regular groom before my leave, I kindly encourage you to book ahead. Appointments leading up to 19 September will be limited, and I’ll be personally contacting clients whose usual grooming schedules may be affected.

Taking this time to rest and recover will ensure I can return to the salon ready to continue offering the thoughtful, gentle care your cats deserve.

Matted from head to paw 🤎

Beautiful Thumper arrived with extensive matting across her entire body. Because her coat had become tightly compacted against the skin, a Modified Lion Clip was the kindest and safest way to give her relief.

When a coat reaches this stage, brushing it out is no longer a gentle option. Severe matting can pull continuously on the skin, restrict comfortable movement and conceal irritation underneath. This is why we groom for the cat in front of us—not simply for the finished aesthetic.

Following her clip, Thumper received a specialised degreasing bath and deep cleanse to gently remove the significant grease build-up from her skin and remaining coat—leaving her feeling fresh, clean and comfortable.

Persian coats are exquisitely beautiful, but they require consistent professional care. A regular grooming schedule helps remove shedding coat and grease build-up before the coat compacts, supports skin and coat health, and creates a calmer, more comfortable experience for your cat.

An unfinished groom, is not a failed groom.
Let me explain why.

I didn’t finish a groom today — and that was the right decision.

During today’s groom, the cat began to pant.
That was my cue to stop.

Could I have tried to push through and finish those last few things? Perhaps.
But completing a groom should never come at the expense of the cat in front of me.

Part of professional feline grooming is understanding that cats communicate with us throughout the entire process. Their body language, behaviour and physical responses all give us information — and it’s our responsibility to listen.
Sometimes that means adapting the groom.

Sometimes it means taking a break.

And sometimes it means calling it a day and sending a cat home without the perfectly finished result we had planned.

An unfinished groom is not a failed groom.

For me, success is knowing that I made the decision that was right for that cat, in that moment.

The finishing touches can wait.
Their welfare cannot. 🤍

Can we take a moment for those incredible coat markings? 🤎🤍 Alice’s coat is truly a little work of art — every swirl, patch and change in colour makes her completely unique.
And beneath those beautiful markings is a coat that benefits from thoughtful, regular maintenance.

Alice enjoyed a thorough deshed, gently removing loose coat that was ready to release. Deshedding isn’t about removing as much hair as possible — it’s about working with the coat, using appropriate tools and technique to remove loose hair while respecting the healthy coat underneath.
