Can your pet travel with their favourite toy or blanket?

A small towel, blanket or soft bedding may be allowed, but toys, leads, harnesses, food and loose items cannot travel inside the crate for safety reasons.

Loose items can shift during transport and may become a choking hazard or cause injury.

✈️ One of the questions we get asked most often is: "Should I sedate my pet before travel?"

The short answer is no.

As part of the loading process, airline staff conduct a visual welfare check of every animal before departure. They'll check that the travel crate is compliant and that your pet appears alert, responsive and fit to travel.

If a pet appears excessively drowsy, unresponsive or shows signs that concern the airline team, they may be removed from the flight for welfare reasons.

That's why we always recommend speaking with your veterinarian about travel preparation and avoiding sedation unless specifically advised by your vet.

If your pet is anxious, there are often alternative options available that can help reduce stress without the risks associated with sedation.

🐾 A calm, comfortable and alert pet is generally the safest traveller.

Did you know that most dogs and cats entering Australia are required to complete quarantine before they can go home?

Australia has some of the strictest biosecurity measures in the world, helping protect our pets, livestock and unique wildlife from diseases not found here.

For most pets, quarantine takes place at the Mickleham facility in Victoria, where they are cared for by experienced animal health professionals before being reunited with their families.
