Looks like the best job in the world but caring for these Koala joeys takes 24.7 dedication. 🐨🐾
Initial milk and medicine feeds every few hours then every 8 hours as they got bigger, now they are on one milk feed daily and close to being weaned off milk. 🍼🍼
Preparing their milk and medicine, feeding, cleaning and sterilising equipment every time..
Every day their teddies, blankets, basket areas and towels must be washed and dried. That's a lot of laundry! 🐻
Fresh leaf is supplied each day which must be multiple varieties because they sure are fussy eaters and only eat the best new fresh leaf. 🌿
Old leaf is discarded and water pots need to be emptied, cleaned and disinfected and refilled.
And there's poo (s**t) counting, collecting, weighing and more... πŸ’©
Lots of hard work, love and dedication from multiple carers and volunteers goes into keeping these Koala joeys here on

We are excited to share with the community that Midyim and Nunka (orphaned Koala joeys) are both weighing in at more than 2kg!

When they came into care at the end of January, they both weighed a little under 1.2kg. This is a big milestone; they have now graduated into their purpose-built outdoor enclosure.

They still require 3 milk feeds a day but will start to be weaned when they reach 2.2kg.... not long! They will remain in care for some months still before they are big enough and old enough to be released back into the wild on Minjerribah.

They seem curious and happy to explore their new surroundings. This will give them the space and opportunity they need to learn new skills and get used to the big wide world in a safe environment.

Pippa the swamp wallaby, came into at midnight on a Friday night in early February, after her mum was hit and killed by a car. She had extensive soft tissue injuries to her mouth and tail. Head vet, Jade, stabilised her overnight (warmth, fluids, pain medication).
Jade and Vet nurse Tarah met at the clinic early Saturday morning, to fully assess her under general anaesthetic, take radiographs, run some blood tests and do surgery to fix her wounds.
After she was stabilized and feeling well, she was passed onto a carer where she has more than doubled her weight and doing well! πŸ¦˜πŸ’›

Keep following our page to stay up to date with Pippa's journey!

Thank you to Wildlife Rescue Minjerribah for rescuing this little lady and bringing her to Dr Jade. πŸ™πŸΌ

FIRST KOALA RELEASED ON MINJERRIBAH

This marks a significant moment for wildlife care on Minjerribah.

For the first time, a rehabilitated koala has been treated and safely returned to its home habitat on the island.

In the past, injured koalas often needed to travel to the mainland for treatment. While necessary for their care, returning them carried risks to the island’s unique population. With on-island veterinary triage, specialist rehabilitation approvals, and community support, a safe pathway home is now possible.

A single animal β€” but a huge step for an entire population.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this moment possible.
