🐾💚 A belated Happy Vet Nurse Day! 💚🐾

In true vet clinic fashion, yesterday was so busy that we didn’t even get a chance to stop and make a post! 😂🐶🐱 But we couldn’t let the day pass without acknowledging our incredible vet nurses and the extraordinary work they do every single day.

The adaptability, compassion, skill and dedication our vet nurses show is nothing short of amazing. No two days are ever the same — what might start as a quiet day can quickly turn into a whirlwind of emergencies, unexpected arrivals and a million things needing to be done at once. Our nurses take it all in their stride, constantly juggling tasks, caring for patients, supporting clients and keeping everything running behind the scenes. 💚

So much of what they do goes unseen, but their impact is felt in every corner of our clinic. From comforting a worried patient to assisting in critical emergencies, their knowledge, kindness and dedication make an incredible difference to the lives of the animals we care for.

We are SO lucky to have such an amazing team of vet nurses, and we are incredibly grateful for everything they bring to our clinic each and every day. 🥹💚

We only just managed to squeeze in a pizza lunch yesterday on the go between the chaos! 🍕😂 Because if there’s one thing our team knows how to do, it’s keep going, no matter what the day throws at us!

To our wonderful vet nurses — thank you for all that you do, both the big things and the little things that make such a huge difference. You are appreciated more than you know! 💚🐾

🦟 Have you noticed a lot more mosquitoes around lately?

Did you know mosquitoes are responsible for spreading heartworm disease in dogs?

As you can see in the life cycle image, a mosquito can bite an infected animal carrying heartworm larvae and then transmit those larvae when it bites another animal. The larvae develop inside your pet and eventually migrate to the heart and major blood vessels, where they mature into adult heartworms.

📍 Here in Dubbo, we have had a few positive heartworm patients, so it’s a timely reminder that prevention is important.

Heartworm can be tricky and potentially serious to treat, which is why prevention is key. There are several options available, including:
💊 Monthly chews
💧 Monthly spot-on treatments
💉 Annual injections

If your pet hasn’t been receiving regular heartworm prevention, they will need a heartworm test before starting prevention to make sure they don’t already have an infection.

If you have any questions about heartworm prevention or which option may be suitable for your pet, please give the clinic a call — we’re happy to help! 🐶🐱

Recently at the clinic we had another patient with a pyometra, where an infection builds in the uterus and is a very serious condition that needs urgent treatment, so we wanted to take the time to highlight the importance of desexing.

Benefits of desexing:
✨ Health benefits: Desexing can reduce the risk of certain reproductive diseases and cancers.
🏡 Helps prevent unwanted litters.
🐶 Can reduce unwanted behaviours: Desexing may help reduce behaviours such as roaming, urine marking and some hormone-driven behaviours.
❤️ A happier, healthier future: Your vet can help you decide the best age and approach for desexing based on your pet’s breed, size, age and individual needs.

If you’re unsure whether it’s the right time to desex your pet, talk to our veterinary team. We’re here to help you make the best decision for your furry family member. 🐕🐈

🦷🐾 AUGUST IS DENTAL MONTH! 🐾🦷

Throughout August, we’re offering FREE dental checks and discounted dental procedures to help keep your pet’s smile healthy! 💙

Here’s a great example of why regular dental checks are so important…

Meet Mila 🐶❤️ She came in for a routine check-up, and during her dental examination, a scale and polish was recommended. Luckily, it was perfect timing — no teeth needed to be removed! 🎉 Check out her before and after photos.

However, Mila had already developed a significant build-up of tartar. Without treatment, this can progress to dental disease, and if her owner had waited much longer, there was a much higher chance that she would have needed teeth removed.

🦷 Did you know pets age around 7–9 times faster than we do?
That means an annual dental check for your pet is roughly equivalent to you only visiting the dentist once every 7–9 years!

Regular dental checks are so important because pets are also incredibly good at hiding pain. Often, by the time owners notice something is wrong — such as difficulty eating, dropping food, bad breath or changes in behaviour — dental disease may already be quite advanced.

So don’t wait until your pet is in pain. ❤️

📞 Give us a call and book your pet in for a FREE dental check this Dental Month!

Let’s keep those tails wagging and those teeth sparkling! ✨🐾

Last weekend we had the pleasure of welcoming 65 Veterinary students from Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga and University of Sydney .

They were treated to a packed weekend learning about our wonderful community in Dubbo and visiting the 4 Dubbo Veterinary Clinics. They then had a delicious dinner at Devil's Hollow Brewery where they met staff from other surrounding towns and Vet Clinics as well as the sponsors for this event.
The follow morning they did the early morning Taronga Western Plains Zoo walk and met with the Wildlife Hospital Veterinarian and staff where they learnt about a career in wildlife and exotic animals.
The weekend was a great opportunity for these students to venture further and see how great our communities, clinics and a career out here can be.

We hope to see some of these students back for placements and careers in the future.

See image for all sponsors and Veterinarians involved. We are so grateful for their support for this event for our amazing industry.

Take a look at the gorgeous Kelpie puppy on the front cover! 🐶✨

We feel lucky to have cared for this little Dubbo local providing their puppy vaccinations and health examinations right here at our clinic.

We think it’s pretty cool to have one of our patients featured on the front cover of such an iconic magazine. Congratulations to this special pup and their family on the feature article in this edition❤️🐾

🎓🐾 Congratulations to our June Puppy Preschool Graduates! 🐾🎓

Another wonderful group of puppies have officially graduated from Puppy Preschool, and we couldn’t be prouder of how much they’ve learned and grown over the past few weeks.

From learning basic manners and social skills to building confidence and making new furry friends, these pups have all done an amazing job. We love watching their personalities shine and seeing the special bond between puppies and their families develop.

Well done to all of our June graduates – we can’t wait to see what adventures lie ahead for you! 🐶
