🐾💉 HAPPY VET NURSE DAY! 💉🐾

Today we’re celebrating the absolute legends who somehow manage to be part nurse, part animal whisperer, part snack dispenser, part detective and totally rock everything else that lands into their hands 🌟

Vet nurses are the steady hands behind so many moments in clinic, from comforting nervous patients, monitoring anaesthetics, assisting in surgery, taking bloods, giving medications, capturing dental X-rays, answering a million questions, cuddling the patients who need a little extra reassurance and keeping everything moving behind the scenes 🥹

They celebrate the fun, sit with families through the hard moments, clean up every imaginable bodily fluid and still somehow find time to tell your pet they’re the most beautiful creature they’ve ever seen 🤭☺️

We’re incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful nursing team here, bringing skill, compassion, humour and a whole lot of heart into the clinic every single day!

HAPPY VET NURSE DAY TO OUR WONDERFUL TEAM 💕

This day , it arrived with tiny paws, floppy ears and the sweetest little sausage body 🥹🌭

After being very brave for vaccines, cuddles treats and a tiny photoshoot with Nurse Isabella were absolutely on the cards 💖

Professionalism maintained, just 🤭

Another one of our newer faces around the clinic is being bought to your feeds today 😍

Say hello to Deb, who has well and truly settled into her role and quickly become a wonderful part of the team 💖

One of Deb’s favourite parts of her job is being able to advocate for her patients; particularly when it comes to patient comfort, stress free handling and giving each animal the time and space they need to feel safe during what can sometimes be a pretty overwhelming experience. We absolutely love having another person on the team who understands that good veterinary care isn’t just about what we do, but how our patients feel while we’re doing it.

If Deb could be any animal, she’d be a sloth 😍 Her reasoning is pretty hard to argue with: everyone thinks you’re cute, there are very few worries in the world, and a hard day’s work consists of travelling about ten metres from one meal to the next 🦥 🤭

Deb has slotted into clinic life beautifully, and we’re so excited for you all to get to know her a little better as you see her smiling face around the clinic! 🤍

🪱 👀 WORMS AND YOUR DOGS 👀 🪱

A little reminder of why it’s important to worm your dogs every 3 months with something containing praziquantel!

Not sure your dog is getting the right protection? Give us a call or pop in for a chat — we’re happy to help! 🐾 6424 1675

Do you own a dog or have contact with dogs? Be aware of Hydatid Disease.

Dogs can get Hydatid Disease from eating raw animal organs (offal). It doesn’t harm dogs, but it can make people very sick and can even be fatal.

People can get infected with hydatid tapeworm eggs via hand-to-mouth transfer after touching dogs, or items with dog poo on them, such as beds, bowls and toys.

Remember:
Never feed raw animal organs (offal) to dogs (‘offal’ includes liver, heart, kidneys, lungs, guts and brain)
Worm dogs at least every 3 months (wormer must contain ‘praziquantel’)
Wash your hands after touching dogs

Hydatid disease in humans is very rare in Tasmania these days, but it took a 30-year campaign to reach that point. Let’s keep it that way!

For more information talk to your vet or visit our website: https://nre.tas.gov.au/hydatid

Today we’re bringing another one of our wonderful humans to your feed, meet Tammy! 🩷

With her bubbly personality, big heart and the kind of energy that makes a clinic day that little bit brighter, Tammy is one of those people who throws herself wholeheartedly into everything she does!

Her favourite part of the job is all of it! From educating and supporting clients, to getting stuck into surgery, to advocating for the animals in our care, Tammy loves that no two days are ever quite the same 🐾

If she could be any animal she would be able panda cub 🐼 funny, cute, slightly chaotic… and ideally spending the majority of the day eating snacks 🤭

🐝 BEEWARE OF THE SPRING BUZZ! 🐝

Spring brings flowers, flowers bring bees and unfortunately some pets think those tiny flying creatures look like an excellent snack!

Most bee stings will cause localised pain and swelling, often around the face, paws or mouth. You might notice your pet suddenly pawing at their face, licking a foot, yelping, developing a swollen muzzle or looking rather offended by their latest life choice.

But bee and insect stings can occasionally cause a serious allergic reaction.

Seek urgent veterinary attention if you notice:

🐝 Rapid or significant swelling, particularly around the face or throat

🐝 Difficulty breathing

🐝 Vomiting or diarrhoea

🐝 Weakness, wobbliness or collapse

🐝 Pale gums or sudden extreme distress

🐝 Multiple stings

If you can see a bee stinger, avoid squeezing it, as this may push more venom into the skin. If your pet is otherwise comfortable and only has mild local swelling, contact us for advice about the best next step!

If your pet has been stung and you’re unsure whether their reaction is normal, please contact the clinic. When it comes to allergic reactions, it is always better to check 🐾

Ps. Who can spot the 🐝 alongside sweet Fly in this piccie 🤭

🌻 ALLERGY SEASON IS HERE 🌻

Spring might mean flowers and sunshine for us, but for some pets it means the return of the dreaded itch!

Environmental allergies can flare when pollen, grasses, plants and other allergens become more abundant. Unlike humans, who often develop runny noses and watery eyes, our pets commonly show allergies through their skin and ears 💭

Things to watch for include:

🐾 Excessive licking or chewing of paws

🐾 Red, irritated or itchy skin

🐾 Frequent scratching

🐾 Recurrent ear irritation or infections

🐾 Rubbing the face along furniture or carpet

🐾 Hair loss, hot spots or changes to the skin

While the occasional scratch is completely normal, constant itching definitely isn’t something pets should simply have to put up with 🥹

There are plenty of ways we can help manage allergy season, from identifying possible triggers and treating secondary skin or ear infections through to medications and longer term management plans where needed 📖

So if your pet is spending more time scratching than stopping to smell the flowers, give the clinic a call. We can help work out what might be making them itch and get them feeling comfortable again 🌼🐶🐱
