☀️🐾 It’s that time of year where the temperature rises and the humidity increases 🐾☀️

🌡️🥵 Heat stroke is a life threatening emergency, and knowing the signs could save your pets life.

Signs of heat stroke
💨 Excessive or heavy panting
💦 Thick excessive drooling
❤️ 🤍 Bright red or pale gums
💩🤮 Vomiting or diarrhoea
🐕 Weakness, wobbling or collapse
🤯 Confusion, seizures or loss of consciousness

⁉️ How can you prevent heat stroke?

💧 Always provide access to fresh, cool drinking water
🐾 Avoid walking your pets during the hottest parts of the day
🕶️ Stick to shaded areas and keep exercise to a minimum in hot water
❌ Never leave your pets unattended in a parked car ( Not even for a second )

⁉️ Remember hot pavement and roads can burn paws
⁉️ Brachycephalic, over weight and older pets are more likely to get heat stroke

✅ What should you do if you suspect heat stroke

1. Move your pet into a cool, shaded or air- conditioned area immediately
2. Begin cooling with cool (Not ice) water, particularly over the belly, body and paws while allowing air to circulate. (Do not lay a towel or blanket over the pet this can trap heat and make heatstroke worse)
3. While cooling your pet contact us immediately to arrange treatment - Do not delay
4. Do not force your pet to drink, or over consume water

❤️ Prevention is always better, if your pet is showing signs of heatstroke every minute matters

Blue entire male staffy found at Jingili Water Gardens. Currently at All Pets Vet Hospital receiving emergency treatment, but need to find owners asap. Please call us on 89480056.

He was reportedly seen with three other dogs before being brought into the clinic.

From comforting nervous patients and providing cuddles when they need them most, to assisting with surgeries, monitoring anaesthesia, caring for hospitalised patients and supporting worried owners, veterinary nurses are there through it all.

🐶 Handsome Sketch paid us a visit last week as his owner noticed that something wasn’t quite right with his ear 😢🐶

⁉️ If your pet is constantly

👂 Scratching their ears,
🫨 Shaking their head
🙉 Has red or smelly ears
🦠 Or you notice discharge, they may have an ear infection

❓ Ear infections can be caused by bacteria, yeast, allergies, parasites or an underlying skin condition

✅ Therefor finding the cause is important for successful treatment

💡 A healthy ear shouldn’t be painful, smelly or excessively dirty.

‼️🦠 Vomiting & diarrhoea in dogs and cats 🦠‼️

Is this normal⁉️

We often hear they’re vomiting, but dogs and cats do that sometimes… right?
Or it’s just a little bit of diarrhoea, but his fine!!

While on occasion a mild stomach upset happens, vomiting and diarrhoea are not considered normal and shouldn’t simply be ignored.

There are many possible causes ranging from something minor like a sudden change of diet to more serious problems:

🦠 Gastrointestinal infections
🪱 Internal parasites
🦴 Foreign bodies or intestinal blockages
☠️ Toxin ingestion
🩺 Pancreatitis
🫘 Liver or kidney diseases

🚨 When should you seek veterinary treatment?
When vomiting repeatedly or unable to keep water down Has frequent or severe diarrhoea Blood in their vomit or stool Lethargic, weak or unusually quiet Swollen or painful abdomen Not eating or drinking You suspect they have eaten something toxic

Meet our Super 🌟 Practice manager and qualified Vet Nurse Kylie. Originally from New Zealand she has called the Territory home for 14 years.

Kylie has been with All Pets Vet Hospital for 7 years but, before All Pets she worked and fostered many animals at the RSPCA Darwin, which is where she found her passion to pursue her dream of becoming a Nurse.

She has one of the toughest jobs!!! Making sure we have unlimited supplies of snacks and coffee to get us through the day.

When she’s not at the clinic, you'll probably find her jamming to The Wiggles and trying to keep up with her two beautiful babies, as she's in her raising tiny humans era.

We also think she makes a pretty cute lemur 😉
