⁉️ What is PU/PD?
PU/PD stands for Polyuria (PU) and Polydipsia (PD) simply meaning increased urination and increased thirst.
🐱🐶 While you will notice your cat or dog drink more on a hot day, after exercise or play, persistent changes in drinking or toileting habits should always be investigated. 🐱🐶
Increased thirst and urination can be associated with a number of conditions including;
🫘 Kidney disease
💉 Diabetes mellitus
💧Urinary tract disease or infection
🧪 Liver disease
🧬 Hormonal changes such as Cushings or Addisons disease
💊 Certain medications
⁉️ What should you do if you notice your pet is emptying the water bowl more frequently, asking to go to the toilet more often, having accidents in the house or producing larger amounts of urine?
✅ Keep track of how much your pet is drinking over a 24 hour period this can provide your Vet with really useful Information
✅ If possible collect a urine sample in a clean container and bring this along with you to your vet appointment.
