A pleasure to support Penny and the wonderful team at Rescuing Golden Retrievers ❤️
💙💛 Penny Pup Post Surgery Pupdate 💛💙
Hi everypawdy, a very tired Penny Pup here, 😴
I had a VERY big day yesterday.
My surgery ended up taking a bit longer than everyone expected, but my speshalist team said I was an absolute superstar the whole time (obviously, I am after all the cutest…… I'm just saying what they said). They told my hoomans they loved looking after me, and honestly, the feeling is mutual, because just look at this dream team from VRH who took care of me — from left to right: anaesthesia specialist Leah, nurse Nana, nurse Shae, medicine specialist Matt (holding yours truly), nurse Jenny, and medicine intern Rylan. Very speshal humans, every single one of them. 🥰
The good news: my pipes are fixed! Both my ureters are now opening into my wee bag (aka bladder) exactly where they're supposed to. Turns out my wee bag also sits a little further back in my tummy than most pups', which is just a Penny quirk rather than something that needs fixing — my team will keep an eye on it, but no action needed there.
I'm a bit wobbly on my paws from the sedation and having a good sleepy day today, but I've already managed to eat some food, so I'm told I'll be back to my cheeky self in no time. 🐾
Now, I have to be honest with you all because that's just how I roll: my team are hopeful they've fixed my leaky pipes for good, but they've explained that about half of pups in my situation stop leaking completely after this surgery, another quarter need a little bit of medicine to finish the job, and the rest of us might need some more help down the track. We won't really know which pup I am for a few weeks yet, while all the swelling settles down. So keep those paws and fingers crossed for me a little longer! 🤞🏼
Whatever happens, I already feel like the luckiest pup in world. To everyone who has donated, commented, shared, or just sent good vibes my way — thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. You got me through scans, medicine, a poorly timed UTI, and now surgery, and I could not have done it without you. My foster family has been reading me every single message, and my tail has not stopped wagging.
I'll keep you posted as I get my strength back. For now, it's nap time.
Love, a sleepy (yawn) but very grateful Penny Pup. 🩷🥱
