The dispersal of Cleveland Boer Goats has been an 18 month process and is now complete following our acceptance of an offer to buy our remaining 51 goats. That sale is now complete, and the goats are now settling into their new home.
Later this month 16 goats under contract for export should leave and we will have just a handful of cull does and wethers.
It had always been our preference to sell our remaining goats as a herd so that Cleveland’s genetics for our Standard and Red Boer Goats can continue. Whilst we cannot disclose the buyer (who will announce their purchase in their own way and timing), we can assure our more than 20,100 Facebook followers that our genetics are in very capable hands.
Those who have been privileged to own goats know what special animals they are. They are unlike any other livestock - many of them are more like friends - and we already miss them dearly. But the reality is there comes a time when we need to accept that we’re not getting any younger, so it is particularly exciting that our purchaser has plenty of life ahead of them to develop their herd with Cleveland’s genetics.
When someone completes any long-term project, employment or profession, it is common to be asked “did you leave it in a better position than what you started with?”. When we look back at our foundation herd and what we have just sold, we think “yes”.
