Meet Odie, the 5 year old Japanese Chin, and her stubborn bladder stone 🪨
Several months ago, Odie presented to the clinic with urination issues. Following diagnostics including urinalysis and ultrasound, it was determined Odie had cystitis and a urolith in her bladder - a rock-like accumulation of mineral and non-mineral crystals that form in the urinary tract. They range from sand-like grains to large stones and can occur in the kidneys, ureters, bladder, or urethra.
Medical dissolution using targeted diet and medication was unsuccessful and Odie was taken to surgery for a cystotomy (a procedure in which an incision is made into the bladder) to extract the stone.
Having recovered well at home with her caring owners, we hope to only see her for routine visits in the future 🤗
