🦷🐶 Let’s Talk About Those Pearly Whites! 🪥❤️
As a dog groomer, I see so many gorgeous dogs come through with tartar build-up and teeth that could do with a little extra love.
Something I really encourage all new puppy owners to do is start brushing your puppy’s teeth while they’re young! 🐾
Just like us, dogs need dental care too. Plaque can quickly turn into tartar, which can lead to sore gums, bad breath and dental disease later in life.
This past few weeks, I’ve been giving my own dogs’ teeth a little extra attention, I managed to get the plaque off and I’ve now made brushing their teeth part of our nightly routine. When I brush mine, I do theirs too! 🥰
Some dogs may need a full plaque removal at a vet and then start with regular brushing after that.
A few little tips to get started:
🐾 Start young and make it a positive experience.
🪥 Use a soft small toothbrush and dog-safe toothpaste (never human toothpaste).
🐶 Begin with just a few seconds and lots of praise.
❤️ Aim for daily brushing if possible, even if you need to build up to it slowly.
🦷 Remember, brushing helps prevent plaque, but existing hard tartar needs professional veterinary attention.
Some dogs naturally seem to have better teeth than others, but good dental habits can make such a difference over their lifetime.
If you’ve recently welcomed a new puppy into your family, now is the perfect time to start!
A minute or two each day could save your furry friend a lot of discomfort and potentially expensive dental treatments down the track.
Healthy teeth, happy dogs! 🐶💕
